Dubious greetings as I inch my way back to socials.

My name is Tana, I write books in the fantasy vein, edit fiction, and compose for screen. Currently querying a queer epistolary with a disabled protag while drafting a new book about cults, gods and a runaway human sacrifice ✨

I'll start with my own!
It Will Hurt is a contemporary queer story about Nico, a young man with bipolar disorder discovering his bisexuality in the underground death metal scene of a university town in 2010s Germany.

Knox is the central chaos bisexual in Cowboy Coven wip (written by a considerably less chaotic bi author). There is no choosing in this love triangle.

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
I Am An AI Hater
I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

Pointed stare at Larian
"The voices told me I needed more slop in my product to make it as bland and generic as possible. Don't worry, the slop was only used as the base for what everything else is built on, you'll most definitely not realize that slop is the core."

publishers weekly pushing an AI workshop to help master Amazon's algorithms, among other horrors... is a thing. jesus. this mass delusion is going to destroy everything if there isn't enough pushback.

so many of the small indignities of daily life come from us being denied the ability to tell a rich man in a tech company to fuck off. minesweeper has microtransactions. paid services have ads. the opt out says maybe later. the drive thru is a broken chatbot. your car is an ipad. fuck off! fuck off!

Since I’m descending into the chaos of the holiday season, I’ve decided to start up a new series on the blog. Bite Sized Beta will tackle some common beta/developmental feedback I leave on books. Today’s bite: Avoiding “white room syndrome.”

In Cowboy Coven wip, Knox isn’t exactly blessed with ample friends. But he does have his familiar: an undead idiot horse named Gutter.

God like a 2 probably. I have the face I guess that compels people to drop their most unhinged lore when we’ve just met. I don’t ask for this

Agree. I also extend this sentiment towards traditional publishing. Taking risks is scary but surely there's excitement to be had not falling back into a comfort zone, but exploring new worlds instead.
I'm really glad they're making more KPop Demon Hunters stuff but I also really wish they'd take its success as a lesson that a movie/show doesn't need to be part of an existing IP to be successful, and that they should take more chances on - and put more marketing into - wholly new stories

Hi friends!! This is my new project. My hope is to provide a big ol’ hub for writers, particularly those just starting out! I will be cross posting here and there but please give the page a follow! 💜

Just got one of these. Don’t feed the bots
Mostly away rn, but heads-up because I got the notifications about it - there are multiple fake, impersonating author accounts with AI-generated content mass following writers, I saw a "George Saunders" and a "Lionel Shriver" and a bunch of you are following them back.

I’m so on board
I saw somebody on TikTok using the word 'slopper' as a slur for people who use ChatGPT, and that's a thing we should start doing.

My toxic trait is already owning a well loved and beautiful copy of the trilogy (seriously go read it—it rewired my brain), while also desperately wanting this version for the cover art. Just LOOKIT them
Just a reminder: The tenth anniversary editions of the original Southern Reach trilogy are still out in the wild, selling well. NYT bestsellers and on a lot of best-of-decade or this century lists. With new intros by Karen Joy Fowler, NK Jemisin, and Helen MacDonald. Buy from you favorite indie.

“Independence day is canceled because of fear of secret police raids” is really a level of on the nose political symbolism you just can’t make up.
LA Times - Several communities in Los Angeles County have called off or postponed their previously scheduled Independence Day and July events, citing resident safety amid ongoing immigration enforcement raids.
Fear of immigration raids force the cancellation of several July festivities in Los Angeles

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.
But if a few people in masks start lighting stuff on fire? Then you have news. This creates an *enormous* attentional advantage towards the most violent and chaotic kind of protest.
