❓"When can we expect this feature"

Please refrain from asking this question towards open source maintainers. You generally shouldn't "expect" anything. I don't often agree with DHH but his take on OSS being a gift, not something you're entitled to, is something I relate with.

I've integrated Mistral AI models in my little coding agent harness pi and am happy to report that Devstral 2.0 is a good agentic model. Somewhere between Sonnet 4.0 and 4.5. It's also OSS and self-hostable.

Europe is back, baby!

I pointed Amp with the oracle and Opus 4.5 at a vulnerable React and asked it to find the remote control execution issue without googling and it found it very little help. In fact, it found more than one way to exploit it. Really, really cool.

The year is 2013:

- password managers worked
- you could get most TV content from one or two streaming services
- you could paste links into chats and previews would actually unfurl correctly
- google results contained actual search results

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Most of what we call "tech" is about getting the right information into a database and trying to prevent the wrong person from reading or updating it.

Here is why I consider AI agents nothing more than software. I'm talking specifically about the pieces of software that do things in a pipeline to complete a task. Let's take booking a flight to Vancouver as an example task.

i’ve joined bluesky as a software developer. i already announced it on twitter and copypasting doesn’t feel right so i’ll link to my thread: x.com/dan_abramov/.... since bluesky is still invite-only, for now i’ll probably keep using twitter for announcement-y stuff and bluesky for more random posts
