To elaborate on this, when Extended ended, it was Zendikar through Theros. According to Scryfall, that's 2,637 cards. If we extend that to the next rotation (m14), it's 3,200 cards.
Standard is currently 3,715 cards. And there's no rotation in 2026, to align it with the calendar year in 2027.

Fun fact, the current plan for Standard (13-18 sets + Foundations) is equal to, or larger than, Extended in its final form (13-16 sets). And most of Extended's sets were small sets.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

when the AI bubble bursts and we have hundreds of extra GWs of capacity on the grid, power will then be too cheap to meter and the hall–héroult process will be essentially free. i propose spinning up the aluminum industry and providing a weekly ration of aluminum billets to all americans

i don't feel like magic set surveys usually have this question and i don't appreciate the implication that content creators, who do so so much for the game, are possibly to blame for a bad set's poor performance. 👎

Reading this thread while in my 3rd airport in 2 days (on my way to a 4th) and whether you travel a lot or not, it's an amazing read.
Some things I've learned in my first few weeks:
1) There is a grey market candy swapping racket between janitors, TSA agents, CSRs, and everyone else who has to stand someplace all day at the airport.
Hi-chews, sour candies, and gummy anything are in highest demand.

I see twenty thousand people a day, and maybe two of them are assholes. Even on a stressful day, even in an unfamiliar environment, even hungry and tired and on a timer.
That's a *much* better ratio than folks realize.
