The Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin. A super dark Jewish fantasy. Queer character, dark magic, political intrigue.

I couldn't finish it because it went to a place I couldn't go, so maybe check if someone else has read it if it's a good fit. The vibes seem like it might be a fit.

(Small press) Evocation by S.T. Gibson. Also a vibe related book. Maybe one of her others is a better comp. Lots of occultism, rituals, demons, angels. Queer couple at the centre of the story.

(Self-pub) Not so recent, but I do want to mention it. The Mennik Thorn series by Patrick Samphire. Magic intertwined with gods and religion, set in a grand city, political intrigue, interesting characters. The second book has darkness in it that I still haven't shaken off.

(Self-pub) Coal Gets In Your Veins by Cat Rector. Queer vampires, a dark corruption taking over a town, Nova Scotian Gothic horror romance. It's more character driven than Dominion but there's the same dark vibe, lots of queer characters, and showcases a specific culture (rural Canada).

Okay! Here are the books that might be comps, if you remove it by two or three degrees. I'll give my explanation for every pick too. Of course, feel free to disregard any of them. Maybe it'll help others think of better fitting comps. Books can be horribly subjective in that regard.
