London hasn't built enough homes since the 1930s.

1937: 3 page planning application

2025: 1,250 pages (25 pages longer than War and Peace)

It didn't used to be this hard to build homes, it doesn't need to be today.

As far as I can tell from this great @londoncentric.media piece, in naming the Overground lines last year no one considered calling the now-Suffragette line The Goblin.

I just can't get my head around this. Wouldn't this have been funny, cool and correct?

My experience of reporting on welfare cuts over the last 12 years is that they result in very high levels of human misery and don't save anything like as much as they were intended to - especially when other costs are factored in. I don't expect Reeves' to be much different

Rosy is unable to move, breathe or eat unassisted. Yet for hours a day she is being left completely alone Last September, I received an email from a reader called Rosy. At just 53, motor neurone disease meant Rosy was losing her body as she knew it,…

Relatedly it just blows my mind that “the private sector in the 1930s to the 1970s” and “the state in the 1950s to 1980s” just absolutely nailed good housebuilding and then just went “well, that’s over now”.

Housing Associations simply do not have the finances to do all that is required of them. As this article notes, the situation is particularly acute in London. All HAs publish their accounts, I strongly advise policy makers (and those in Govt) read them. It's grim.

I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions
