I think the Dem governors and mayors can and should do more, legally and nonviolently. some ideas off the top of my head
- order DOT to close roads near ICE facilities
- conduct routine power and water maintenance to facilities
- mire them in endless legal knots
- refuse any support whatsoever

The First Amendment explicitly guarantees:

-the right of the people peaceably to assemble
-to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
-the free exercise of religion
-freedom of speech

If this priest had also been press, ICE would have violated all five 1A freedoms at once.

I just did an in-depth review of the research and could not find a single paper that showed any positive effects from conversion therapy. And the negative effects are incredibly terrible and numerous.

There's absolutely no reason to permit anyone to practice this, even if it's "consensual."

Their actions seem to be made to bait us into reacting.

I think few people are because they see the strategy for what it is.

I'm not saying it's not bad, or that we shouldn't react, just that we need proportionality and mass buy in

There are certainly people who will never see it, and there is definitely a massive propaganda effort underway.

We just don't want to play into that and accelerate the repression.

At the same time this is all beyond unacceptable and it's time for action of course. We just need to be smart about it

I think it is actually. Some courts are still ruling against deployment of the NG, which is a big deal. If there's real violence then they could easily rule the other way.

Right now they just look like stupid assholes proclaiming there's a crisis when there isn't one.

Which is good for us.

Self defense strategies would be wise for everyone to consider, but I think most of us don't actually want a civil war. Our job is to prevent one through cooperation and disruption.
