It's always been a bad idea. And it does nothing to change the piss poor ethics of corporate training. If yall are trying to sound sympathetic, going around the internet recycling century old fascist and anti-postmodernist arguments about the value of process is not how you do it
I'm starting to think that actively trying to police whether someone's art is or isn't machine learning generated is starting to be more detrimental than helpful for the community. Even as an experienced digital artist it can be hard to see the difference.

there should be accountability from whoever is responsible for any machine that cause harm, but the system itself is the main problem with cars. you reduce crashes by not forcing everyone to always be driving. building public transit and making streets and communities safe to walk and bike on.

Would someone die? Yes. Because no one can guarantee 100% certainty on anything, which seems like one of those American neuroses that when paired with anger at the idea of faceless corporations gives the illusion of being rational.

Yes, a world with widespread self-driving cars would likely mean the end of professional drivers as a profession. It'd also mean the end of driving for fun in most public roads. Tired of hearing that driving is like some human right or dignity or some nonsense.

It is actually kind of amusing how Waymo has caused 0 human fatalities so far but people are mad because they're not saying that they can guarantee 100% certainty that it'll never happen. Meanwhile people are killed in car accidents every day. Even the public transport kills people!

It's a Tumblr/Bluesky kind of argumentation that obviously doesn't work on anyone who cares about what is true, but it signals adherence to the cause to those in the in-group. I appreciate seeing people push back against that sort of stuff.

I have a lot more respect for AI doomers because the vast majority of them will tell you without any qualms that the datacenter water issue has no basis in data even if it hurts their arguments, and the DAIR types will just call everyone who disagrees a racist.

Most people who are against "ai art" are actually against all forms of radical experimental art and postmodernism. In fact, the arguments they use are the same ones that were used against postmodernism for a century. There's no denying this.

At this point I also just hate IP small holders and see them as an enemy of progress. It's only incidental that they've managed to latch themselves on to this cause

Do they ever follow the reasoning here to the point of noticing that if you can simulate a human mind but not produce qualia, they're eventually faced with having to arbitrarily deny recognition as a fellow mind to something that can produce everything that convinces them other people are conscious?

As if the thing anyone cares about with consciousness is the atom-pushing and not the flow of information and causality!
