Last year was such a miserable holiday. A whole month off and it was raining or overcast for most of it.
December 3, 2025 at 4:28 PM
It’s been rainy almost every day. Thunderstorms and I’m so over this shit.

The rehabilitation of Hursthill 2 forms part of a broader upgrade of the entire Commando system, which includes the introduction of a pump station to supply the Hursthill reservoir complex, replacing the current gravity-fed arrangement.

This will be a challenging period, as it will be difficult to predict exactly when supply will be affected or restored due to the lack of reserve capacity. However, the work is critical to ensuring long-term water reliability for all affected areas.
December 3, 2025 at 8:25 AM
Johannesburg Water has indicated that there are no alternative means to augment supply during this period, making intermittent disruptions unavoidable. At this stage, it is still unclear how the high-lying areas will be affected until the bypass is fully commissioned and operational.
December 3, 2025 at 8:25 AM
Unfortunately, this will impact water supply and may result in periods of low pressure or no water. The repair work will take place from 1 December 2025 to 9 April 2026, and contractors will continue working through December and the January builders’ break to ensure the project stays on schedule.

This project aims to repair cracks in the reservoir walls and restore the reservoir to full operational capacity.
While this work is essential and long overdue, it will require the reservoir to be placed on bypass so that teams can safely work inside.
