National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept 30 is in remembrance for the victims of the Canadian Indian residential school system. I'm highlighting nonfiction written by Canadian Indigenous people about their experiences in Canada.

Let’s sit at a table and write on some Post-it notes and cry together, my friends. I’m ready if you are.

What the DFL leadership bodies need is a literal third party consulting org that leads us through mediation, healing, coalition building, and a shared vision process.

Tearing each other down in the streets and in the Tweets is harming all of us. We are living through trauma.

the lesson of the kimmel thing is that a corporation that previously caved to trump was forced by its audience to defy him.

they're afraid of him but they're more afraid of you.

My kids have been watching the 1992 X-Men cartoon and it's woke as hell; president threatening internment camps, false flag ops to make the mutants look violent, professor explaining scspegoating as a political tactic. Kind of freaky to see how the media has fallen. 1/2

It’s strange to have to so often fight like hell to get someone elected just to turn around and fight like hell to influence their policy. But such as the plight of an advocate on the left.

I hope he picks a Lt Gov that will be a voice for disabled Minneaotans like Peggy is

I have complicated feelings about Walz running again. On the one hand I feel like he’s the best bet we have to continue the DFL sweep the constitutional offices.

And on the other, I have found his budget to be harmful for disabled people both on Medicaid and in schools.

I am experimenting with AI to see how easy it is to dox someone using it and my conclusion is AI is bad at finding someone without social media but I am very good at finding anyone I want.

Also your address is on campaign finance filings.

to my mind the woman who dies of sepsis because of antiabortion laws, or the person who dies because they can't afford insulin -- these are just as much victims of political violence as the man shot through the throat while making a racist speech

I feel like there’s something to be said about how political protest in America has morphed into gun violence, but I don’t think I’m smart enough to put together what it all means.

One more note. I have been a roller derby announcer for 15 years and before every game we check pronouns. If I can remember the pronouns of over 40 people per game over a 4 day tournament, grown adult adults who are chairing a meeting can remember the pronouns of 5 people who repeatedly remind them.

My statement on tonight's DFL Feminist Caucus Annual Meeting. This statement is being emailed to the Feminist Caucus Chair, Alicia Gibson, and to the State DFL Chair, Richard Carlbom.

This caucus should be ashamed of itself.
Tonight, I attended my first and last DFL Feminist Caucus meeting. As someone who did not come by my feminism through how I was raised, but rather fought my way through to live as the gender I am and to exist as a non-binary person in this world, I found the experience to be demeaning, demoralizing, and actively anti-feminist. If being a feminist in the DFL means caucusing with this group, count me out.

My pronouns are very simple and yet the caucus chairs and caucus leadership could not get them correct, despite being repeatedly reminded and corrected at every single opportunity. However, they could suddenly use the singular “they” when it came to my fellow caucus member who happened to be a trans woman, despite her repeatedly giving her pronouns as she/her.

This was just the beginning. It was clear from the start that no one leading this meeting understood Robert’s Rules, and very clearly wanted to vote for their friends and be done with it. At the very beginning, an illegal motion was made to just adopt an entire slate of leadership, despite there being challengers to those positions known to the caucus. For me, however, the most hurtful thing was that despite repeatedly affirming that underrepresented people should run for caucus office, should be prioritized in the process, no trans or non-binary people were represented in any of the caucus leadership, much less respected in the meeting. My pronouns - they/them - were clearly seen as an inconvenience, met with eyerolls and annoyance whenever I corrected people. At one point, one of the newly elected caucus leadership claimed her pronouns are “Black Queen,” a clear mockery of the process of asking for pronouns altogether.

Does this reflect DFL values? To mock a non-binary person whose community is under direct attack from the president himself? To refuse to use a person’s proper pronouns so repeatedly and without care that I had to make a SIGN with them on it for the meeting?

It wasn’t as though my pronouns were a surprise. I sent in my statement of intent to run for Vice Chair the day before the meeting and it was sent out to all members. I identified my pronouns in that statement. And yet, they were ignored.

The DFL Feminist Caucus is anything but. I resign my membership.

@dexanderson.com, I am sorry I did not do more to stand up for you and the other trans people in that meeting. I was laying in bed with my children and was worried about what they would hear if I spoke, but that’s not a good excuse for allowing that violence to continue.

As we stand at the precipice of fascism and work to preserve what we love about our country, we can’t give in to the widespread violence against trans people.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Abraham Lincoln quote “the better angels of our nature.” As DFLers we must be called to listen to them.

I’ve been a member of the Feminist. Caucus as long as I’ve been in the DFL and I have helped to revitalize it any way I can whenever it’s needed. But last night that space was so harmful to the transpeople that wanted to participate that I’m not sure why I should spend my time going to meetings.
