It’s a "crisis" when immigrants "take jobs away", but "innovation" when machines do. Funny.

It's increasingly clear that the president lives in a constructed bubble of unreality designed by aides who are manipulating him in order to take control of US policy. Seems like an important story - wish media would cover it.

Miller’s attempt to deem The Left terrorism was obviously where this was going and why, in addition to it being intellectually and morally correct, it was important to resist efforts to classify pro-Palestinian groups as such. You reject the politicization of “terrorism” or you accept it for all.

TNC: we win and we lose. The promise of Reconstruction violently defeated and followed by the nadir.

Klein: here’s a Buddhist meditation.

Not the same conversation

Klein reminds me of the 2016 “no one does political history anymore” brouhaha. If you reduce politics to electoral persuasion, then winners do it right, losers wrong. TNC tried to broaden the political by grounding it in Black history. It didn’t work.

Klein doesn’t feel he can say what’s the right way to do politics (except by publishing pieces announcing who he thinks does politics the right way)
jmcunning.bsky.social
IMO, the most revealing part is Klein wrestling with the question of where "the line" is (between acceptable and unacceptable politics). Realizing that what he considered past the line is now the GOP mainstream doesn't make him commit harder to fighting it. He wonders if he needs to move the line.

they’re putting Kimmel back on the air. I would now like to see the same amount of outrage for the firing of professors for their statements

Read this as Slaughterhouse case. Still a bunch of bastards.

#BREAKING: Over dissents from Justices Sotomayor, Kagan & Jackson, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the Slaughter case (allowing President Trump to remove the last Dem member of the FTC), *and* grants certiorari "before judgment" to decide whether to formally overrule its 1935 ruling in Humphrey's Executor.

“Hit roadblocks” is a really funny way of writing “failed to fake evidence”
NYT headline reading: Fight Erupts Over Fate of U.S. Attorney Investigating Two Trump Foes; Trump officials told Erik S. Siebert that he was likely to be fired. He had hit roadblocks investigating New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, and the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey. Below is a picture of Erik S. Siebert.

if Jimmy Kimmel's political humor is too hot for you to handle, I'm not sure "snowflake" even cuts it as a term of derision for the level of fragility you've achieved

He did not say conservatives had been purged. Republicans. Because partisanship the only salient idea. Party takeover of institutions the goal.

Fraud in defense of genocide - and on day when Israel is destroying Gaza City’s last remaining towers and ordering more than a million to the south.

My name was added to this letter without my consent. It is perhaps worth noting that it lists my old professional affiliation rather than my current one.

It may also be worth noting that I checked the letter when Nathan posted it and did not see my name, so it may have been added since last night.

@tedmccormick.bsky.social wondering whether you signed the recent “scholars for truth about genocide” letter because if not, and like @nkalamb.bsky.social, your name would appear to have been added without your consent.

By far the coolest volume I’ve ever been in. The essays meet the current assault on public health and expertise. Each imagines ways of honouring bodily autonomy without sacrificing our collective well being. @nursingclio.bsky.social @rutgersupress.bsky.social

I truly understand that cancer is complex, multi causal and not something you can diet your way out of. But with colon cancer becoming a young person’s disease, MAHA’s meat protein fetish is a time bomb — and that’s leaving aside environmental costs
