Extremely upset that a throw-away XKCD joke somehow became the organizing principle for the Internet.

Watched @monteiro.bsky.social's "How to draw an orange" keynote and I think more people should. Because while it has some great "AI" criticism emerging from a deeply humanist and creative perspective I really enjoyed how it talks about the structures that keep us from becoming ourselves.

you'd think a prominent news outlet like the New York Times might mention that "antifa" isn't an actual organization in a long story about antifa, but nope!

and the subhead helps props up a false claim this professor was up to something seedy as something up for debate

My mom called me last night about the Kimmel firing, saying "This is how Hitler got started!" I quickly responded, "By firing the late night tv hosts?"

Turns out, mom was right.

When we think of sexism, it's easy to think of *active* efforts to discriminate against women. But sexism also operates *passively* - like through our inaction on issues like childcare and paid family leave. In that context, return-to-office policies are sexist in consequence, even if not in design.
"The labor participation rate for women with children younger than 5 had the biggest midyear drop in more than 40 years during the first six months of 2025."

For the love of god can we stop airing articles about "X tech bro says this is gonna happen in X years clearly just in service of a publicity stunt". No. It's not going to happen. Obviously. Why are we indulging this?

I designed a utility procedure to turn a JSON object into a bunch of relational tables in SQL Server, along with a new procedure that loads those tables.

Should work on SQL 2019 and newer.

Your thoughts or feedback is appreciated. :)

This essay by @baldurbjarnason.com on why individual experiments on the usefulness of "AI" (or similar stuff) don't teach us anything useful and might actually harm us is brilliant.

Go read it. Too many insights to pull a quote TBH:

So while interviewing a candidate for an open DB developer position the candidate called our tech stack a legacy environment because we are using MSSQL Server.

Is that how people feel these days? Is SQL going to be the next COBOL..?
