Ex-chef. Ex-journalist (A.i. is getting all the work) I write words for free, for money, for my own health.

I’m trying to learn #Gaeilge

I write fiction mostly. But, big but, factual writing is a hard task too but worth it.

Channel 4 in the UK is going to air the brilliant ‘Say Nothing’. It was previously only available via paid streaming.

It’s about what’s euphemised (sic) as ‘The Troubles’ in the north of Ireland.

British people need to watch it.

Seriously, where are the Aussies?

My cat, Sydney, and my dog, Hobart need to know.

(Also me, I miss Aus a lot)

“Tim, why is all the writing work on your website free? Don’t you know A.i. will scrape it!”

Well now:

1. I love writing, been doing it for 40 years.

2. I’ve run out of energy trying to find an agent (my bad of course).

3. I love it when people read the work.

4. I’ll be dead soon. Why wait?

I might post the risotto recipe and method I was taught by an Italian Nona in Sydney.

She hit me with a spatula if I got it wrong.

I think I’ve given up booze by accident.

This means when I go out amid, you know, people, I just sort of stand there for 10 minutes before making what’s called an Irish exit.

Here’s a fun fact. The first cinema in Ireland (Volta Cinematograph) was put in place by James Joyce and partners.

James didn’t hang around though. He had business in Trieste and a few of literature changing books to write.

Phillipe Sands book, ‘38 Londres Street’ about the legal/moral issues relating to General Pinochet is brilliant.

Trump should read it.

The name of the book refers to the HQ of the Chilean Socialist Party that Pinochet turned into a torture centre.

Have you read it @davidallengreen.bsky.social ?

Juries are not perfect.

Many of the worst miscarriages of justice have followed jury trials.

But the merit of juries is not so much the power they have, but the power they prevent others from having.

They mean a judge cannot just nod-along with prosecution evidence and give a guilty verdict.

Songs that offended people who never listened to them but were told they would be offended.

Spasticus Autisticus - Ian Dury et al

White Noise - Stiff Little Fingers

Gay Bar - Electric Six

Are there still listening parties on social media? You know, when we'd find a group of people who listened to a music album all the way through starting at the same time?

OK kids, old hack (journalist) here.

Interviewing insights?

1. “That’s a great question, Tim” = I need time to think, you bastard.

2. “I think we need to reframe that question” = my PR person didn’t give me the script for your actual question.
