Hi @dannybate.bsky.social! Just read chapter O. Of Why Q Needs U. You mentioned that if Revelation 1:8 had been written in Hebrew or Aramaic, it would say “I am the A and the T” instead of Alpha and Omega. Fun fact: in the Syriac Peshitta, it actually does read “I am Olaph and Taw.” (ܐܢܐ ܐܠܦ ܘܬܘ)

Throughout the Middle Ages, Iberia (now Spain and Portugal) had a distinctive system of counting years, with a start date of 38 BC.

The period after 38 BC was known the Aera Hispanica, apparently named after bronze counters – aera in Latin.

It's from this system that we seem to get the word 'era'.

Therefore, until the mid 18th century, the first month of the year was March, meaning that January really was the eleventh month and June really was the fourth month.

Hel Calennig 🍎

It was the custom to give gifts on New Year's Day.

Children would gather in little groups and go from house to house, wishing the occupants a Happy New Year and Good Health.

What people did before television!
497 years ago today, Henry VIII attended a meal with Cardinal Wolsey and the Papal Legate Campeggio, for which this is the menu (one of the few menus for meals attended by Henry) that survive.
