As online ID check laws spread, companies are working out how to comply. It’s Day 5 of our week of action- we’re putting the spotlight on YouTube.

YouTube rolled out age verification this summer to appease lawmakers, smoothing the way for more dangerous laws to pass.

Users are noticing Twitter/X has added a Grok-powered AI image editor that lets anyone edit any image on the platform, including other people’s artwork using text prompts.

Artists warn there’s no opt-out or consent, raising concerns over unauthorized edits and misuse.

For further context twitter added a button that allows users to generate ai images using existing art posts from artists. It removes glaze and it basically reskins the artwork by using the existing work as a base. Twitter is no longer a safe space for art

tl;dr: GenAI and game design concepts traditionally referred to as "AI" (enemy behaviors, pathfinding, etc.) are not the same thing, and I'm on my knees begging people to learn the difference, lest we see more bullshit claims like what The Escapist put out re: Blue Prince.
Weird weekend, huh? Took a crack at breaking down the whole Clair Obscur genAI situation, and its bizarre fallout, as best as possible. My main takeaway right now is that people really need to figure out exactly what they're criticizing or it's going to get messy. www.polygon.com/clair-obscur...

It's very easy:

Just don't. The idea that Copilot or ChatGPT are suddenly essential tools is just buying into the corporate ad blitz.

Games were made just fine (well, relatively) up through...what, 2023? 2024? They didn't suddenly become VITAL for budgets or design docs in the last 2-3 years.

If your fanbase leaves because you won't play a game with Gen Ai in it then they aren't your fans and do not respect you or anyone else as artists or humans.

AND you streaming this stuff promotes the stuff killing our livelihood anyway.

Games and movies are basically the only industries who might be able to make some money off of this. If they lose gamers they lose a lot and they're already making negative billions.
I keep seeing folks say “gamers hating AI” are going to cause the pendulum to swing back hard and people will end up loving AI.

Nah, the bubble will pop and almost everyone will move on like NFT’s. The tech won’t survive if you have to constantly force everyone to use it.
My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore
