Amidst all the criticism of the ABC, a reminder of why the public broadcaster is essential: a very good story by Wimmera ABC journo Julia Bergin on electoral office rorts lets by MP Anne Webster. Local regional media would be too sacred to touch this story www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...
The mystery of MP's empty office that has allegedly 'broken the rules'
A federal politician with two offices has used taxpayer funding to open a third. The catch? It's completely empty, and by the politician's own admission "clearly a billboard".

SA has an incredibly complex set of country bus services, so I have poured far too many hours into this map

"Seats on Sydney-Melbourne train service regularly sell out over holiday period, as one-way flights to Tullamarine average almost $500"

Huge demand, but no capacity to absorb it, and no firm plans from any level of government to fix this.

These sleeping cars, built 1949-72, were all named with sleep-related words from languages indigenous to the region through which they normally ran. Remarkably, every one of the 18 names ends in the letter i.

Celebration of indigenous languages in 1949 might have been a bit unusual. And I love it.
