The (quarterfinals bound) triple take: Spurs 139, Nuggets 136

1. Devin Vassell comes up big in crunch time

2. The Spurs were set up to lose, but didn't

3. Rebounding is going to be an adventure sans Vic, but Champagnie and Johnson are helping out

“He’s becoming a winning player.”

Devin Vassell has seen his role shift and reshape in the five years since he became (at the time) the Spurs' highest-drafted rookie since Duncan.

Friday, he shot the Spurs into the NBA Cup quarterfinals.

A look at the journey:

"In trying to get this group into the playoffs, these games are huge.”

The Spurs realize the NBA Cup isn't the same as the NBA playoffs. However, they do believe one could serve as a stepping stone to the other.

That and more in this fresh batch of Spurs notes:

How the Spurs feel about winning the Group of Death
It doesn't mean everything, but advancing to the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup means something to the upstart Spurs

Our indy web agencies are struggling. I know first hand the incredible quality of Set Studio’s work and I’d urge anyone who needs a bit of website love (or indeed a new one) to hit them up.

Likewise, if you’ve got a bit of learning budget kicking about, get yourself a piccalilli course.
A bit of a vulnerable post by me but we need your help to get us through what has been a more difficult period than 2020.

It would be really appreciated if you could read and share in your networks too 💛

Unlike a lot of places in tech, my company, Set Studio/Piccalilli has no outside funding. Bootstrapped is what the LinkedIn people say, I think. It’s been a hard year this year. A very hard year...

My sister hosted her annual neighborhood Thanksgiving party yesterday and it was attended by folks from six different countries (plus a U.S. territory).

Don’t ever let people tell you that’s not awesome. Because that party ruled.

US law requires the National Guard as part of the US Army “be organized, trained, and equipped primarily for prompt and sustained combat incident to operations on land.”

We employ police officers to prevent crime, law enforcement. Military officers train for war.

Enjoy the time with family and friends, like Lindy Waters III does. And remember the native people present and past.

As a Native American, however, the holiday comes with a darker edge.
“I’m teaching everyone else that it was pretty much like a set-up to massacre Indians,” he said.
Like most Americans, the Spurs' Lindy Waters III sees Thanksgiving as a time for food, family and fellowship.

As a Native American, Waters' views on the holiday are ... complicated.

Spoke with Waters about the proud heritage he literally wears on his sleeve:

If Dylan Harper is able to make his return to the court tonight, he'll have missed 10 games due to the left calf strain, or 3.5 weeks.

He's still listed as questionable on the latest Spurs injury report.
