RFK must go. Please contact your congresspeople about this. Ask them why RFK was allowed to unilaterally fire a senate appointee because she contacted senators – the appropriate oversight body – after the HHS secretary demanded that she break the law & betray Americans’ public health.
As long as he stays in office, the American public has to assume that their public health is being actively threatened. A current CDC employee put it starkly:
People will die because of this. We won't be able to get out guidance or get out funding for public health departments or get out vaccines.
We're going to be sicker as a country, not as effective, waste resources. And for what? I don't understand.

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and @oah.org president David Blight offers a rousing call to fight the administration's war on history: "Now we have to mobilize to defend our profession not only with research and teaching but in the realm of politics and public persuasion. And we cannot surrender!"
What if History Died by Sanctioned Ignorance?
We must mobilize now to defend our profession, not only with research and teaching but in the realm of politics and public persuasion.

Donald Trump's immigration policy (essentially to have masked men disappear 4-6% of the population) is morally reprehensible *and* deeply unpopular, a second poll this week finds.

This is why we need the National Guard and Marines on the ground in Los Angeles? The administration is using military force to silence dissent. Stand up for the right to protest.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

There is no substantive case that can be made—none—that this is just or that this is moral. Or that this is good for the United States.

She came here as a toddler, and would have been eligible for DACA if the program was not ended. Now she is in ICE detention because she took a right turn on a red light.
Her father is in the same detention center, arrested for a traffic violation two weeks prior.

Now there's a memorable stat!

"Colleges and universities are among America’s most competitive international exporters. In dollar terms, last year, the United States sold more educational services to the rest of the world than it sold in natural gas and coal combined."

"Let us pause there. Since 1965 NEH has distributed in grants… $6b. The FY24 budget for the National Science Foundation alone was $9.06b. (And for NEH in FY24, $211m.)

"Perhaps more tellingly, the NEH funding rate for scholars is 7% whereas for NSF grants at last report it was 25 or 26%. "

Breaking democracy: Donald J. Trump, the American far-right leader, was not disqualified to run for President by providing aid & comfort to insurrectionists, nor banned by the Senate after inciting insurrection, nor convicted for conspiring to overturn election results.

Every institution failed.
