Habeas Corpus is on first.
atrupar.com
Q: Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus?

TRUMP: Suspending who?

Q: Habeas corpus

TRUMP: I don't know. I'd rather leave that to Kristi.

side note: i still have not recovered from the mortification of being a young hitch-hiker in England 30 years ago and asking a local how to get to Gloucestershire, which apparently is pronounced "GLAWSTAH" not glow-chester-shyer

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Every 80s metal drum solo ever recorded:
he's doing the "speed up my paradiddles" thing sigh
his paradiddles are very fast
now he's slowing them down again
they are very slow
he's speeding up again and people are cheering because woo fast

One of my favourite things about Facebook is that once you leave Facebook it is startlingly easy to forget that Facebook ever even existed.

One of my least favourite things about Facebook is that it still exists even if you've forgotten it.

the answer to the trolley problem is not to pick who to sacrifice, it’s to dismantle the system that led to an unsafe trolley crossing.

if any part of your morality strategy involves picking a group to let die on a hill, throw the entire strategy out. it’s wrong.

...which got me to thinking (and I stand by this thought) that these sorts of real-time pvp combat games are in fact a form of conversational jazz improvisation.

They have a syntaxes and a rhythm, and they require you to first memorize and master a vocabulary, then...

...and then I thought to map the ASDF and arrow keys to a piano keyboard and learn them as scale patterns / note combos instead.

It worked. I could translate the melodic cells back to the keyboard waayyy more efficiently than just memorizing letters....

My kid B was trying to teach me how to play Guilty Gear Strive a couple months back. I was really struggling to remember keystroke combos and to catch the rhythm required to input complex moves consistently.

So we got to talking about how I can remember complex combos and rhythms on guitar....

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Real life is kind of a reverse Metroidvania if you think about it, you start out being able to climb and wiggle into places and fall from great heights without a scratch, and then one day you're ability gated by such as waking up wrong

My mom (who has a background in chemistry so idk maybe she's right) claimed that pouring a small amount of cold milk into a hot cup of tea "denatures the proteins" in the milk...

I was raised in a household where tea can only be made in a pot, and if you take milk you add it to your cup _before_ you pour the tea.

Adding milk after is an affront to the Irish tea gods.

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Next person who asks, I'll tell them I caught a falling school bus.
Queen Maeve, from The Boys. She's a mighty Celtic warrior queen in spiral-worked metal and burgundy leather armour, wearing an iron circlet on her brow. She has long red hair, and is facing off to the right but has turned her head to look back to the left. She seems concerned.

Just learned that Good King Wenceslas was murdered by his brother, Boleslaus the Cruel, and that Boleslaus--in a master stroke of PR--was significantly responsible for the cult of veneration that led to his murdered brother's sainthood.

My family has some pretty strange dinner conversations.
