Live in #boston? Want to see real progress towards a car free city? Here is an easy way to email all of our city council every time there is an opportunity to let your voice be heard. Sent and email to them and make sure that we want progress, not cars in this city.
City Council
The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Boston. Councilors are elected every two years by the citizens of Boston. The council is made up of four at-large councilors that represent the ...

this. We ask literally everyone to bend over backwards for cars, yet cars are treated like this glass vase that will shatter if you make modifications to the world to slow them down.

We ask everyone outside of the car to be safe so that drivers can be dangerous.

That’s the entirety of our approach to road safety.

Watching antisocial driver behavior in the school drop-off line makes it really clear that the pandemic destroyed whatever few shreds remained of the social compact, just pathological selfishness on display every day

Boston is a city for people who care more about others than they do themselves.

Now recalling reading 26 pages of obituaries in the Globe on a Sunday in 2020.

Had a blast at the fourth annual Chinatown Night Market! With families from across the region, amazing performances, and fantastic food, it was incredible to see the city come together to enjoy all that Chinatown has to offer.

For whatever reason once you're in a car anything or anyone who slows you down or makes you wait instantly triggers a negative aggressive reaction in car drivers. See it all the time... especially now I see parents dropping off kids at elementary school...kind ppl waiting for the doors to open but-

When they're in their car if you're stopped waiting for a kid to cross or getting your baby in their car seat and they have to wait you can physically see them screaming and cursing you out in their car or laying on their horn...it's wild what car brain does to a person

There are many, many anti e-bike people on this site. And many more who have opinions based on misinformation.

The people that need to see your post probably are not on BlueSky. #Motonormativity seems to support placing all modes other than car/truck into simplified categories to assign danger and blame. #eBikesAreNotMotoBikes

This is the main issue I have with so much of the coverage around e-bikes. It's not that there aren't legitimate issues. But there is a panic around e-bikes and crickets regarding the daily toll of cars. And that's because the harm of cars is just accepted. It's baked into our society.

The deference we give to drivers is astonishing: speeding, blowing through red lights, crashing without a whisper; yet we jump on non-drivers the moment they step out of line.

Class 1 and 2 e-bikes max out at 20 mph. And even class 3s max out at 28 mph.

I can ride as fast or faster on my acoustic bicycle.

If we're going to talk about e-bikes I think it's important we base our discussions around facts.
muppetvt.vtubers.racing
Something that I really am tired of leaving out of the "e-bike" discussion is the fact that they can(and regularly do) hit 25mph or faster on purely the power of the electric motor. At that point, it's going at vehicle traffic speeds. And folks should be wearing motorcycle gear for going that fast.

Ebike ally! You don't have to ride one to understand the potential!

It's funny to me that I'm one of the biggest e-bike defenders on this site and I don't even own an e-bike (yet).

I just see their potential to get people out of cars and I want to fight for their expansion!

Considering congestion charges for vehicles is a fact driven solution that has already helped NYC amass hundreds of millions for their public transit system upgrades. We should heavily consider this in Massachusetts state wide in all cities.
trainsbikesbus.bsky.social
reducing cars, that can park in streets, or drive in the city will help emergency vehicles get from point a to b. To do that, we need protected bike lanes, and more public transit, elimination of parking garages in new apartment complexes, and the reduction of street parking.
trainsbikesbus.bsky.social
bikes & pedestrians shouldn't constantly have to work around cars. Cars continue to keep emergency vehicles from getting from point a to b. Taking a parking lane that would be full of cars and turning it into a functional bike lane helps solve congestion issues.
trainsbikesbus.bsky.social
My observations while riding an ebike, walking, driving is that the safest most efficent way for bikes to function is to provide a lane in both directions, not one single wide lane. Some folks will say "what about emergency services!" well...cars are in the way, maybe less cars solve that, but
trainsbikesbus.bsky.social
the solution is to provide protected bike lanes that are wide and allow there to be a walking path & a biking path. Take road space. Hell in #boston we have one way roads with parking on both sides...take a side of parking from every street & bam...instant bike lane space both side expansion

"This is a complex issue so we'll do an inflammatory headline about chaos."

On the plus side, this article does talk to an e-bike rider and the editor of @mass.streetsblog.org. The rise of e-bike is a complex and nuanced story and coverage should reflect that!

she could - but in order to do it you have to go vertical with dense apartment complexes with commercial on the bottom, it could even be mixed use, commercial floors 1-2, offices 3-5, apartments 6-20/30/40/50. IF we can build a 60 story office building we can build a 60 story apartment

i want this for my kids...but we need them actually protected. I'm not risking my kids life on some paint on the ground. @wutrain.bsky.social lets get you elected and go forward with true protected bike lanes. Concrete bollards, raised bike lanes (ideal for every type of accessibility)

#boston we're a small big city. In order to help us grow, we have to build our apartments higher with commercial on the bottom, more trains, and protected bike lanes with reduced car lanes. We cannot add parking garages or encourage more cars. They're choking our city, air, and our growth

The “E-Bike Effect:” Those who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%.

E-bikes support fewer car trips.

As a parent with little children. Ebikes have completely unlocked me. My wife & I can now bring our children around the city on our ebike, I can bring them to school & every season I see more & more parents zooming around with them. More bike lanes, more ebikes...they're not motorcycles

E-bikes are an absolute game-changer in terms of giving more people the option of going car-light or car-free, but adoption is threatened by the ongoing moral panic. As the article notes, the solution is not restrictions on e-bikes, but creating more infrastructure to support e-bike riders. 1/2

On wbur this morning they had a focus on Frank Baker who's running for city council...apparently has had 2 strokes & long covid. Also apparently is pro-ice in wanting our police force to work with them. Says the city is too progressive & wants to roll it back...not getting my vote thats for sure
