LGBT+ Labour must confirm whether Peter Mandelson is still a Patron of the organisation.

A strong majority of Labour members under 45 stand strongly with the trans community 🏳️‍⚧️

But it’s no surprise the membership as a whole is split in two when the government have treated this issue in such a divisive way.

The LGBT+ community deserves better.

LGBT+ Labour have said nothing about the appointment of Mary-Ann Stephenson or Bridget Phillipson ignoring the WEC and JCHR to do so.

It is blindingly clear that the current committee neither has the confidence of the trans community or deserve it.

We need change.
We demand an AGM.

Despite concerns by MPs and the two relevant select committees, Mary-Ann Stephenson’s appointment as EHRC Chair has gone ahead - this is incredibly concerning.

LGBT+ Labour still hasn’t sent us the Constitution after 140 days, but they had time to remove a member of the committee from their website after 20 minutes.

Yesterday, we’d hoped to be at the LGBT+ Labour AGM… but we went to the social instead.

We urgently need an AGM and a democratic committee vote - it’s time to give members a proper choice 🏳️‍⚧️

If elected National Campaigns Officer, my first job will be working with the amazing @transalliance.bsky.social to help fix the broken house that is LGBT+ Labour.

When an organisation is this broken, there's no wonder it’s failed trans people. That ends soon.

A reminder that any trans person can join LGBT Labour even if you are not a member of the Labour Party.

As long as you are eligible to join the Labour Party (eg not a member of another party) you can join and vote at their AGM…

Our statement on LGBT+ Labour National Committee's decision to postpone the AGM.

We fully intend to contest the LGBT+ Labour AGM.

Trans rights are human rights 🏳️‍⚧️
This afternoon, LGBT+ Labour's leadership informed the National Committee that they'll be delaying the AGM to an unspecified date, on the justification that it's unclear whether trans people will be allowed to run as their own gender.

Make no mistake: the National Committee are doing this because they’re running scared and knew we would win a democratic vote next weekend. If they planned to make these changes to the elections, they would have done so before our slate was announced, not when our campaign was picking up steam.

It’s beyond disgusting that an LGBT+ organisation is willing to betray its trans members in such a fundamental way just to cling on to committee positions. It is not, however, a surprise: it simply confirms what we already knew about the cliquey, careerist and top-down way in which the organisation has been operating. LGBT+ Labour has failed to speak up for trans members, and is now content to deny their existence.

We fully intend to contest the LGBT+ Labour AGM and give members a proper choice. We will also use every route available to us to contest the extraordinary decision that has been made.

If you’re not already an LGBT+ Labour member, join up now and help us get ready for the AGM. It’s time we took our organisation back.

Trans rights are human rights.

If it was a difficult legal decision, you’d have expected them to have made it *before* the AGM was announced, not 24 hours before registrations closed when their Committee positions were in danger of being lost!

Somebody who needs no introduction: Georgia Meadows, our other fantastic candidate for Co-Chair of LGBT+ Labour 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Vote for Georgia and the rest of the slate at the LGBT+ Labour AGM on Saturday 19th July. If you’re a member, sign up before 5pm this Saturday 12th!
For half my life, I've fought for underrepresented groups, from those in care to neurodiverse people to trans rights now. As I left care, I felt the need to get involved in politics to combat the corruption of social care. After the murder of Brianna Ghey, I knew I had to stand. I recognised, as all trans people did, that this kind of attack on trans people would not stop without someone being there to challenge narratives peddled by the media and organisations falsely claiming to stand for women's rights.

When I was asked to stand as Trans Officer for LGBT+ Labour, I felt like I had finally reached a position where I could truly advocate for trans people within the new Government's LGBT+ affiliate. What I was met with was frankly insulting. An organisation with so much potential, but that is completely uninterested in fighting for trans rights, other than a few lone voices on Committee. They completely ignored every concern I ever brought to them and actively excluded me from events and the writing of statements.

This slate exists because of that. LGBT+ Labour has the potential to stand as a bastion for LGBT+ rights but much of the current Committee is not interested in achieving that - we are.

Introducing Amy… one of our fantastic candidates for Co-Chair of LGBT+ Labour 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Vote for Amy and the rest of the Trans Rights Alliance slate at the LGBT+ Labour AGM on Saturday 19th July. If you’re a member, sign up before 5pm this Saturday 12th!
I first got involved with the Labour Party after seeing local candidates and activists campaigning in local elections during my first year at uni. Seeing people working together to improve their community brought back a faith in party politics that I’d lost after growing up in a small town under austerity.

I’ve always been a passionate advocate for LGBT+ rights, and in Labour I found a community of people who were open-minded and welcoming, and made connections with other LGBT+ people and allies involved in politics working towards a more inclusive future. Unfortunately, since the election I’ve been disappointed to see LGBT+ voices not included in the Labour government’s decision making: from extending the Tories’ cruel and unsound ban on puberty blockers to the embrace of an interpretation of the Equality Act that makes trans people less safe and less able to be involved with public life.

I’m a strong believer in what the Labour Party can be - my experience of the membership has consistently been of a group of people who are dedicated to social justice and improving access to opportunities, and I’m standing for Co-Chair for LGBT+ Labour because I want to help our movement be the best version of itself it could be: supporting the Party when it gets it right and helping it improve where it falls short.

Amy Tamblyn, Trans Rights Alliance candidate for Co-Chair

“In order to effectively fight against the rollback of trans rights, win policies that would materially improve the lives of trans people, and change our political culture, it is crucial that we work together across Labour Party factions and have trans members’ voices in the room. That’s why I’m proud to endorse the Trans Rights Alliance for the LGBT+ Labour elections.

"I urge you to support them at the AGM on Saturday 19th July."

The current LGBT+ Labour National Committee is not interested in securing trans rights.

They've failed to challenge Government actions that are liable to lead to the removal of trans people as a class.

It's an unfortunate action to take, but I cannot let our future lie in their hands.
