The Treasury Department right now. People are turning out against Musk and DOGE staging a takeover of the Treasury’s payment system. This crowd is big. The whole block is packed. “Lock him up,” everyone yells.

Knowing that I am doing work that directly serves my immediate community gives me so much peace of mind. It doesn't entirely line up with my ideals, but I do my best. I do good work and it makes a difference.

Sometimes resistance is simply continuing to do the work that you were already doing which aligns with your values.

BREAKING: Republican Congressman Andy Biggs has introduced a bill to abolish OSHA.

The entire text of the bill reads "The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 is repealed. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is abolished."

I mean eventually the GOP Rasputins that guy, right? That's where this is going?

Need suggestions for that last point?

-Donate to local mutual aid, food pantries, or outreach programs.
-Call your congressional reps and leave a message making your concerns clear.
-Support creative efforts from marginalized people currently being targeted.

Panic and despair without an outlet can be self-destructive. Interrupt the doom spiral:

-Do 1 self-indulgent thing that makes you feel happy or content.
-Do 1 thing to make your home environment more calm or comfortable.
-Do 1 thing to help your community and people in it.

Repeat as needed.

If I were Sauron I simply would not have stored the power of global dominion in an item that could accidentally be left on the edge of a sink in a gas station bathroom.

None of these reactionary assholes appreciate what we have, what it took to get it, or how precarious it all is.

A thousand generations of my ancestors would have given their right hand to trade places with me.

Let’s be clear about what could be on the chopping block because of Trump’s new power grab:

Disaster assistance
Funding for public schools
Head Start
Medicaid
Construction projects
Manufacturing jobs

Unleashing confusion on millions of lives and livelihoods for no reason.

I've started sleeping on the couch on weekends. I couldn't figure out why I love it, but I think it's like a subconscious compromise between staying up late and not using my bed for anything but sleep. On the couch, I can read or knit or watch videos until I curl up and pass out.

I want YOU to be able to go out and confidently say when your asshole uncle insists that Trump is "draining the swamp" or "ending woke DEI hiring" or whatever: "Oh, do you mean taking jobs and accommodations away from disabled veterans? Because that's what's actually happening."

In lighter news, I took Kit out for his daily walk. He lasted less than 60 seconds before he wanted in. He was visibly shocked by how cold it was.

It was deliberate. It was an experiment in audacity to see how far they can push things and still have them hand-waved away.

I'm trying not to entirely freak out over here, but I think being freaked out is an appropriate response to what happened.

I've heard "The freaks come out at night" and "weak sauce" in this confirmation hearing leading me to rapidly recontextualize some stuff

Holy heck, this thread is fascinating. Latest update: China may be moving foreign IPs to a different server. In the middle of this: Chinese-Americans who rely on the app to stay connected to their culture.
I don't know how many of y'all are watching the migration of American TikTokers to RedNote, but it's the most fascinating thing I've EVER SEEN HAPPEN ONLINE.

there is a 24/7 right-wing propaganda apparatus that operates across multiple mediums and it designed to do exactly this: smother any kind of local, material concern with cultural war signifiers and cultivate a “political affiliation as team sport” ethos
Montana is the clearest place to see the nationalization of US politics. Whole Dem ticket was multigenerational MT hunters & farmers in bolo ties. Dem gov candidate owned a gun manufacturer. GOP slate was outta state tech.

Whole race was dominated by natl culture war & southern border, GOP sweep

It is so perfectly American that we have two indicators for public safety, both revolving around corporations: the Waffle House Index for storm severity and the Yankee Candle Index tracking covid rates.
