Welcome to v4 of the Blue Sky Game Dev orientation 🧵!

Let's get you started with the basics of Bluesky, finding other devs, and posting about your games!

Btw, this is based on the artist orientation thread from @purlane.ink; make sure to check it out if you’re also on the art side of game dev!

Welcome to the Bluesky artist orientation 🧵!

This will get you started on the basics of how this network works, how to connect with other artists, and how to get your art seen.

If you’re a furry, I also highly recommend checking out @buttplug.engineer's furry orientation thread below:

Welcome to qDot’s “So you’re a furry that just joined bsky” 🧵

A guide to other posts on the network and servers furries should know because I’m sick of repeating myself

First up, @kamu.bsky.social ’s Furry Roll-call thread. Comment to let others know you’re here.

You’re too kind! Thank you. 🙇🏻‍♂️

FWIW, I’m not trying to win any popularity contests. I’m just putting my efforts into helping support the game dev community here on Bluesky. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t appreciate the derisive tone, but my posts are referring to the game dev feed that I run here on Bluesky. It’s used by ~26K Bluesky users every day and has ~16x more likes than the next most popular feed on the topic, hence the popularity claim.

I am curating the feed, but it’s more like pruning. I handle misuse of the feed by removing irrelevant posts and banning problematic users. I also regularly tune the algorithm to make sure the feed is capturing as much relevant content as it can. ☺️

I believe they look at it during pre-launch review, but post-launch updates get less scrutiny. Launch with a nice low number, then crank it up to like 50GB in a post-launch update easy exploit. 😜

Fellow game-makers: this is our livelihood. If you haven't started making calls already, now is the time. See numbers here: bsky.app/profile/acva...

Oh, hey.

Visa and Mastercard now say you can't pay for WoW. Magic the Gathering. FFXIV. DnD. Lord of the Rings. Because they're all "adult" content against their ToS just for being "fantasy".

Let that sink in.

Spread this like wildfire and have people in those circles call them. No quarter.

Woke up to quite the update on this. I had been in contact with Payment Cloud about getting their service and they waited until now to hit me with the image below. Again, stringing me along instead of being upfront. They had seen my website multiple times before this.

Haha, the main thing is just ping or DM me if you see content that doesn't belong in the feed. Most of the work I'm doing at this point is curation and moderation.

The best way to find out is to make it! FWIW, I super recommend @graze.social for building feeds these days (all of mine are on Graze now). 😁

Yeah, my theory has been that we would start with the Games lexicon (first use case, I'm in games), then abstract common fields that could be used for other software into an App lexicon.

The long-term idea is that there would be a base App lexicon, then sidecar records for Game, DevTool, etc.

Decentralized platforms aren't just better for users - it's better for business too. Read below about how we beat industry benchmarks in a recent donation drive for public media on the @graze.social sponsored content market, and what that means for the future of decentralized social media!

@felicitas.pojtinger.com had that with Atmosfeed at one point, but I think she spun it down. Could be useful as prior art for somebody else, tho.

Lol, thankies. I'm still pretty sure I was being a baby, but I appreciate the thought nonetheless. 🥰

Yeah, if it’s all opt-in with no verification, there are now a couple of labelers that are simple enough to stand up and don’t require running a full Ozone instance.

I’ve been sick for the past 2 days, but it happens so rarely that I always forget just how much it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Big ups to my immune system for being awesome. Big downs for how big of a baby I am with the most insignificant of ailments. 🤣

You can always create your own feed! A lot of folx will create one off personal feeds for stuff like this. I highly recommend @graze.social.

- New feed
- Filter to just your posts
- Filter posts that have whatever hashtag you prefer

I was recently discussing doing this on ATproto. 3rd party sellers could create a new record in your repo (using their signature) as a sort of proof-of-sale for an individual game. With an open lexicon you could even show off your collection elsewhere.

going to take this weekend to chill out, and will start looking for roles next week.

if you or someone you know is looking for staff/principal level Developer Advocacy, OSPO, dev infra, or similar roles pass them along!

Regardless of the current circumstances, more competition in the space would be great.

Of course it can, but they’ll be susceptible to the same payment processors regardless of where they’re located. Collective Shout is based in Australia and is already pressuring the payment processors to come down on companies globally.

Except that this whole thing was started by a group of individuals. Collective Shout said it only took ~1000 calls to make this happen. If we as individuals call en masse demanding a reversal, it’s a lot more likely to happen.
