We all knew this was the game plan, but it's still weird to hear such things admitted out loud:

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

My 13 year old daughter took this photo of my son and I, walking through a meadow in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. I've always loved it, it has a very narrative, sort of Jane Austin-esque quality.

Ruins of White's Factory, which was a cotton- and sawmill during the Early Federal period in Acushnet, Massachusetts. My own work, winter of 2010-2011.

Seen in Alberta. As a New Englander with close familial ties to the Maritimes and Newfoundland on both sides, this saddens me deeply. I feel much more at home in Atlantic Canada than I do in any part of the US west of Lake Champlain. I hope Canadians know how many of us are with them.

One of my favourite photos I've taken. New Year's Day of 2006, at the Audubon near my parents' house south of Boston.

My life is actually pretty good right now, far from perfect, but leagues and farthings better than it was a year ago, when I was at my lowest. But the world has gotten so much worse that it's hard to appreciate.

I’m not so much afraid for myself as I am for the future of our parks. I can see the same worry in the everyone’s eyes. When we make eye contact, there’s this silent acknowledgment that we’re all facing this together.

If you ever make a dumb mistake and you're feeling stupid, just remember that there are people out there who can't afford eggs, and so they voted for the party that wants to cut food stamps to pay for more billionaire tax cuts.

Sometimes when I'm feeling depressed, I walk down the street and remind myself that I live in a truly beautiful place (not my photo, but it is my town).

This needs to be our mindset going forward. No more compromise, no more incrementalism, no more self-defeating attempts at "reaching across the aisle".

We used to be a proper civilisation. When we break free from the United States, we're going back to having this sort of gravestones.
