Prepping for the values-fit interview
Toad walked up and down on the porch for a long time. But he could not think of a story to tell Frog.

When applying for a job in tech, it's important to consider the name of the company. Make sure you're okay with spending the next 3-5 years telling people you work at Boingsterix or SplootyHero or whatever.

Since listening to Tom and Dominic’s French Revolution series on @theresthistory.bsky.social, I’ve been caught up in a Rousseauean fervour of reading. Just finished Schama’s "Citizens", now diving into Darnton’s "The Revolutionary Temper". Timothy Tackett is on deck.

Publishers: stop putting "A Novel" on book covers. It's been 300 years. We know they're made up. #booksky

Mostly happy with the result, but Canadian governments tend to become ineffective after about 10 years. This would have been a change election if not for the tariffs. Carney, like Kathleen Wynne in Ontario, might end up holding the bag for his predecessor.

Watched Conclave: overall a good film, but I'm conflicted about the twist at the end. There isn't much logical setup, which risks making the preceding drama feel irrelevant. It could also be seen as exploitative: identity is used for a final shock without thinking through the consequences.

In Jane Austen’s "Emma", upper-class characters socialize surprisingly often with people of different socioeconomic statuses. Maybe that’s why Emma herself seems so classist. When class boundaries become more fluid, the elite feel an even greater need to reaffirm them

I love all my friends saying things like, “I wish I could make a career off being petty and making diss tracks” after the halftime show, and I’m out here like, “Have you considered academia?”

Think history will judge tech leaders for their politics? How about the time Henry Ford published a four-volume work of antisemitic conspiracy theories and nobody ever mentioned it again?
