for a comparison of fairness, imagine if 87% tracks on BBC radio were played for free, with absolutely no royalties given to the composers, only to those who were deemed 'successful' enough to receive any. We're expected to provide music for free, and make money from t shirts and adverts on y-tube

according to digital distributors CD Baby, "Last year, 87% of tracks uploaded to streaming platforms didn’t reach 1,000 streams.". Phew. If that's true, then 87% of tracks played on Spotify last year got ZERO streaming payment from Spotify. (they only pay out if you reach 1000) 87%!!!!! 😱😡

You can also find this, and hundreds more recordings from around the world, on the Cities and Memory website. I dedicate Il-Genna Mitlufa to my grandfather Francis Xavier Mangion, and to my brave father Pio Mangion.

I am so proud to say it has been included on the Sonic Heritage album which is now available to download from Bandcamp. I couldn't share this online until now as it felt too hard. It is now more than a special recording. It is a tribute to my father.

My audio piece, using my own field recording of the Hagar Qim temple, was based around my Dad's voice, talking to me, and reading from his own father's Maltese translation of Paradise Lost, Il-Genna Mitlufa.
