I've got a new article out @historyworkshop.org.uk. It argues for history as a form of intergenerational friendship.
History, like friendship, can be a politically powerful way of talking and thinking across time, and can connect past, present, and future struggle ✊

Criticism about AI in schools mostly focuses on how it allows students to get away with something (by using OpenAI to write their essays). But shouldn't we be talking more about its detrimental effects on teaching and learning than on how it impedes our ability to evaluate students?

Concerned that we are losing the necessary ratio. 15% of teachers/faculty should be irretrievably strange eccentrics. Every learning experience should have some element where in later life you can reflect with former classmates about how bizarre at least one (1) class per year was.

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it
AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event
Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.

We are hiring a new PhD student in the history group @unistavanger.bsky.social. There are several possible topics, including «Intersections between history education and education for sustainable development/environmental citizenship», which should be interesting for the #envhist #envhum crowd.
