Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I'm back working on this string quilt that I started over a year ago. I'm not wild about it, but I want to finish it and see what it's like.

Penneys says its clothes are “designed to last”.

So we tested them – and a lot of these clothes didn’t hold up.

“It's amazing how pollution has dropped in #Paris in 15 years. @annehidalgo.bsky.social has filled the city with bike-lanes & not only has she reduced pollution by 40% but she’s also been re-elected.”

Trading car space for green space, bike space, kid space…trading pollution for people. Good trade.
Es alucinante cómo ha bajado la contaminación en París en 15 años. Anne Hidalgo lo ha llenado todo de carriles bici y no sólo ha reducido la contaminación en un 40%, sino que ha sido reelegida.

I’m sure your local Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael or Green Party TD’s are lovely people. But lovely people don’t collude in a vote to bury the State’s responsibility for what happened in Mother and Baby Homes. Don’t forget that when you vote today.

I love this thread - this is exactly it!
Also - making and creating and being crafty DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FOR MONEY.
Every time there's a post about how writers shouldn't use AI art, some chucklefuck in the comments says it's not fair because "some people just don't have art skills."

So, from a former "person without art skills," here's a 🧵 about the cool shit that's happened since I decided to make art anyway.

My kids insisted on getting my husband to make a card for our dog for his birthday (gotcha day). They then brought it to school and got all the kids in school to sign it. Kids are mad.

I also just finished watching Disclaimer on Apple TV+ and thought it was excellent. It's slow paced but captivating. Cate Blanchett and Kevin Klein were magnificent.

I haven't read novels much in the last 10 years since my kids came along. I got back into reading and listening to books in September and have gone through 11 since then.
My most recent finish was 'Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine' by Gail Honeyman. I loved it.
