Also I may be hallucinating this but I remember my mother buying me the ET novelization and it involved the kids drawing naked women with lasers and ET peeping on Elliott's mom in the shower. His psychic connection with the kid caused Elliott to get disturbingly aroused at school.

I've spent a bizarre amount of time thinking about how cults are different from most other groups and I'm here to tell you, if all your classrooms all have a flag in them and you have kids doing a group chant honoring that flag, you're in murky territory.

I think anyone who saw the episode where Mr. Rogers explains the Trolley Problem has it seared in their memory forever.
So much violence, depictions of gore we never thought possible in puppetry.
We wept, we screamed, we were scarred.
Still, it was educational.

The data center angst feels like a leading indicator of a broader economic development question about if the public will ever support high-value industrial activity that:
-uses a lot of power
-doesn’t create many jobs

Because that seems like the future of manufacturing.

so many of the small indignities of daily life come from us being denied the ability to tell a rich man in a tech company to fuck off. minesweeper has microtransactions. paid services have ads. the opt out says maybe later. the drive thru is a broken chatbot. your car is an ipad. fuck off! fuck off!

Look, the first Tron was an old guy's vision of real life video games and in a purely aesthetic sense it was fine.

But that second movie stank of premature brand panic.

I hate the AI but I am not at all surprised by it.

Absolutely AI is bullshit, but are you familiar with Tron?

From a strictly adult lens, the only exciting thing about the original was digitizing an orange (the implication to me being that you could just copy-paste food into reality.)

Most exciting part of the second Tron was turning it off.
