Yes. What Kirk did is a simulacrum of discussion & debate, constructed without any of the good faith that might give it meaning or impact. It was a show -- humiliating liberals &, by invoking liberal values like "civil discourse" -- fooling them into playing along with it.
The fact that people who should know better can’t tell the difference between what Kirk did on one hand and “civil discourse” on the other is a sign of what a bad state our “civil discourse” is in these days.

Important thread
There are violent extremists on the left but they are not in charge of the party. You can find them on social media, not in the halls of power.

The violent extremists on the right are in congress, on courts, and sitting in the Oval Office.

Important principles to keep in mind at this time:

1. Charlie Kirk was a very malignant force in American life. A disgusting influence.
2. He didn't deserve to die, regardless of whatever he's said or done.
3. If you can't feel sympathy for the man, feel sympathy for his family. And the country.

Why is it so hard for the New York Times to say something Trump said is racist? Not "carrying uncomfortable racial overtones." Racist.

What's with the weasel words?

Absolutely brilliant.
Joe Rogan might call this a brutal KO, if it wasn't him getting knocked the F out.

A supremely delightful takedown by @climatetown.bsky.social of Rogan's confident, ignorant, and dangerous climate denial.

Apparently, it’s totally cool to tell Jews what we really think and decide that you know more than your Jewish friends on Israel, Palestine, and Zionism because you’ve “listened to people online”. I will say this as many times as I need to, but other people don’t get to redefine Zionism for Jews. 1/

This is the Trump MO, which people fall for every time: make some provocative announcement about something that everyone's heard of, like Alcatraz or the Gulf of Mexico. Get people yapping about it for days as part of the endless culture war so they're not talking about Trump tanking the economy.
Markwayne Mullin: "Let's have Riker & Alcatraz both open. So we got east coast & west coast both covered, & put our most notorious criminals in them so people understand we're a nation of laws again, unlike under Biden... I don't believe in keeping them comfortable. I want them to regret the crime"

What far-right positions do we think are being supported here? It is not "far-right" to say the atmosphere at Harvard and elsewhere is ripe for reform.

Is it just me, or do others have a perverse admiration for the sheer boldness, the stubborn bloody-mindedness of Donald Trump.

Don't get me wrong - he's still world-historical awful. He's caused more damage to this country than just about anything in our history outside the Civil War.

Trump is deporting people with legal status and no criminal convictions to foreign hellhole’s without due process.

His idiot team is sharing classified attack plans on insecure channels and accidentally including a reporter.

He’s pushing us toward a recession.

He’s threatening to invade allies.

The issue here is that the left doesn't see things like deplatforming people for wrongthink as a "threat to free speech."

As someone who spent part of my childhood in Canada and retains much affection for it, this is painful to see. I've seen it recently in my professional life - Canadian clients are now wary about hiring Americans.

And for what? What have we gained from this? talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/a-hos...

Unbelievable.
Trump’s commerce secretary Howard Lutnick says if Social Security skipped a check, his mother-in-law wouldn’t complain—and if you would, it indicates you are probably a fraudster. Insane.

-Gaza would have supplies and power
-Allies wouldn't be canceling arms deals
-Trump would be in prison

This is a bigger scandal than people realize.

It really makes it look as though this entire meeting was a setup by Trump that was planned in advance.

If you watch the video it is clear that they are deliberately and almost derangedly blindsiding Zelenskyy. Now we know who the audience was.

Putin.

This is designed for one purpose only: to drive liberals and Democrats crazy.

There is no way any of this is happening. It's simply absurd to take it at all seriously.
Complete batshit lunacy on the president's Truth Social account. Yes, he really posted this.

I'm really interested in what the Trump supporters in my feed - there are a few - think about what's happening now.
1. Do you think the brewing trade war with Canada and Mexico is a good idea? Do you expect not to be affected by it?
2. Do you approve of the power Elon Musk has been given?

If you look at what's going on in the country now, would you say that pharma prices are where you should focus your attention?
Democrats have been working hard to lower drug and health care prices for Americans across the country.

But Trump has been trying to undo this work so he can get his rich Pharma buddies even richer.

I want to make a modest political suggestion:

Every time we see something like this, Democratic leaders should be shouting from the rooftops: "TRUMP VOTERS: IS STOPPING CANCER RESEARCH WHAT YOU WANTED?"
The Trump administration, moving quickly to clamp down on health and science agencies, has canceled a string of scientific meetings and instructed federal health officials to refrain from all public communications.

I have as much contempt for Elon as the next guy, but seeing this from this angle, I don't think he meant to do the full Sieg Heil. It looks more like a "from my heart to all of you" gesture.

Maybe I'm being naive - but I do think he's that oblivious to what it would look like.
Elon just did this…
