My experience so far playing Metroid Prime 4

I do enjoy the game a lot though, but man, I hate when games backseat. If I wanted backseating, I would livestream it on Twitch.

Is it me or the “brand new studio from industry veterans” doesn’t mean anything anymore?

New studio proceeds to hype up a revolutionary super ambitious project and then deliver a subpar game because they didn’t get the millions they were asking for.

I'm looking at old gamejams I did back in 2021 when Iwas young, naive and with no gamedev experience. I can't believe I was able to do these games, part-time, in 7-10 days.

I probably have 5x more skills now and I can't even make a gameplay loop in a month. Proof that everything is psychological.

I realized recently that I think I lost my fun making games the day I started following marketing advices.

Like marketing is important, but it kills every idea I have because there’s always a reason why it’s not marketable. It’s bumming me out.

5 months after the jam that brought SCOPECREEP to life, I'm proud to say the Steam Page as now launched! If you like incremental games, make sure to wishlist it!

Also, it would mean the world to me if you spread the word!

It's been an exhausting week, but I was able to add the hat change mechanics into Godot.

I have 2 different AnimatedSprites that mirror each others.
One has a spritesheet of the character with no hat.
Another one with only the hat.
Then I swap the texture.

Working on hat designs. Classic designs and funny ones!
When you change your hat (your special power) it's also reflected in the HUD.

I worked on the Steam capsule design all weekend. Not yet ready to share it on social media, but if you're interested in early sneak peeks, I'm sharing progress on my Discord server.

Working on my Steam assets👀
I want to keep some surprises, but here's the game logo. I think I like it this way.
I hid the in-game screaming mechanics in the letters!

Silksong crashing all the storefronts minutes after launch is like a test run for them to prepare for the GTA6 release next year. This is wild!

We're constantly overthinking everything with the market, trends, genres, niches....at the end of the day, if you're an indie developer,

Just. Make. Video Games!
That's it.
If you're an indie developer, you should hang this screenshot on your wall and use it as inspiration to never give up

I LOVE the hat throw mechanics! I have so many ideas

The green hat. It's a decade-old used hat (and very smelly) that leaves a poison trail when thrown.
Poison effect and hat design pending™️!

The attack loop ⬇️
1. Scream to stun the enemy
2. Punch stunned enemy to spawn triangles
3. Collect the small triangles
4. Build up the rage meter
5. Use rage to throw your hat for a special attack
6. Buy new hats with new powers at the shop!

Messing around with a risk-reward attack system inspired by Doom 16.

You scream at people to stun them.
Then, you can punch them to get orbs that you pick up to build a special meter, but if you continue screaming at them, they explode and nothing drops.

Started the Godot implementation of the level selector with the little receipt popping when you select a store. It will give details on the gifts to buy (aka the level objectives).

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

Level selector mockup. You will scroll left and right to select the level (displayed as storefronts) with the progress below.
White monochromatic palette and custom storefronts for every levels with the character physically running from one to another.

Added an ending to the intro cutscene.
It's also a preview of the player attacks (sort of like a hidden tutorial?)!
I just need to add the correct sprites now!

Woke up early, so I coded the dialogue system in Godot using the portraits I drew during the last few days!

Still missing a few components, but it's shaping up nicely!

I took a much needed break from the daily dev this weekend.

I'm trying to figure out the style of the dialogue / cutscene portaits to introduce the levels.
I feel a bit insecure about my art. I think this one is nice?!

I'm no marketing expert but I see it 2 ways:

1) either you delay and release alongside hundreds of other games in a few weeks

2) release the same week and have better odds of being in "New & Trendy" categories since everybody else cancelled their releases. Almost no press coverage though.
Indie devs are delaying their games because of Silksong
