It's not Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Gothic or Ultima. It's Dragon Quest, King's Field and Zelda.
Were those inspirations somehow just immaterial to Dark Souls, or was he actually tapping into the broader design traditions of jrpgs?

Like just as an example, every confidant now calls you after a date to reiterate what just happened. They summarize the scene that literally happened seconds ago.

It can lead to weird examples though, like Metaphor where I can barely parse the menu and just rely on muscle memory lol
