Proposed changes to Australia’s FOI laws would make a repeat of the disastrous Robodebt coverup more likely, rather than less, our new research shows.

The PM described Robodebt as a “gross betrayal and human tragedy”, yet his government plans to make cabinet documents harder to access. #auspol

Despite the noise, renewables keep rising now generating more electricity than coal.

@iea.org halved its US outlook, but raised India’s by 10%, putting it on track as the No. 2 growth market after China. MENA up 23%, driven by Saudi wind and solar.

On grid 82% renewables electrification in Australia by 2030? 👀
A walk in the park
Hard to avoid
What if we really tried?🤔
100%?
Technically + commercially doable
We just need real action
#COP29
Treat it like a #ClimateCrisis?
Rest of Australia?
Off-grid mines etc can easily reach by 2035

The 'statement of reasons' given by enviro minister Murray Watt approving the North West Shelf gas project extension contains some astonishing mental gymnastics.
He assumes the same level of emissions could occur even if the project didn't proceed

Think @australianlabor.bsky.social could try a little harder in planning for a future without fossil fuels? We do and that’s why we’ll be at Chris Bowens office tomorrow for a little 🧶 and 📩 with some ideas.

Twilight Zone stuff! We export our gas - contributing significantly to world emissions, causing local electricity prices to go through the roof, whilst not receiving tax or royalties - to keep others happy and to reserve a place for our politicians at the big table. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ #auspol

Australia’s housing market isn’t a ladder, it’s a Ponzi scheme.

The new “first home buyer” plan just feeds the property lobby while renters queue in Bondi.

End negative gearing. Scrap CGT perks. Tax Airbnb rorts. Everyone knows how to fix it. No one’s got the guts.

When Kemi Badenoch lays into Britain's Net Zero efforts and extols the virtues of fossil fuels, consider this: "wholesale electricity price [in 2024] could have been up to 33 per cent higher without contribution from wind power generation."

Clean energy means freedom from disasters & dependency.
'Marginal gains': Growth in British renewables has cut electricity prices by up to a quarter
New analysis suggests last year's wholesale electricity price could have been up to 33 per cent higher without contribution from wind power generation

Not only that, they are allowed to export gas "surplus to requirements" for free (no royalties) while parts of Australia suffer a gas shortage.

No actual shortage. Plenty of gas, exported & re-purchased, or simply given away to exporter.

Many climate projections rely on a lot of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) for CO₂ removal (CDR). Usually the criticism is of the biomass part, but given the uncertainty in CCS, how can we be so confident about scaling BECCS?
