Not saying this is universally false, but it's very non-NYC-applicable; people who are displaced from central areas sure as hell aren't driving in
This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.

Accuse people you hate of something or other then set the authorities on them. If they find nothing, too bad. If they find more or less anything, that proves all the allegations were true. I suspect reactionaries worldwide looked at the Brazilian right jailing Lula and thought: hmm, interesting.

You’d think the three largest parties relentlessly chasing the approval of the craziest, most unpleasable section of the public, to the huge benefit of the posh National Front, would be recognised as some kind of democratic crisis. Should it not prompt reevaluation of who/what our democracy is for?
Do we not think it’s odd that all of Reform, the Tories and Labour are fighting like badgers for the approval of the very wackiest, most racist and reactionary 30% of the electorate *even though this is clearly disastrous for two of those parties*? Does anyone want to try explaining why that is.

(It’s because 1) they are all horrible right wing cranks who actively *need* the approval of elderly racists, and 2) because our horrific national press will fucking destroy anyone who makes any headway with anything that is not “the Thatcherite consensus propped up with xenophobia and crackdowns).

Britain absolutely deserves and extremely pissy fight between Sir Keir and Streeting but I straight up don’t believe that would be an actual fight, any more than The Rock vs The Undertaker was an Olympian contest for victory

The public are IMO entitled to ask why they were assured the incoming Johnson government would fix stuff like this and why - when that didn’t happen, as it was *very obviously* never going to happen - everyone who told them it would simply moved on to fluffing up the next pack of bullshit artists.

Mel isn’t saying much today that’s notably crazier than the stuff she was saying five years ago, or fifteen. All of her colleagues have always fully understood she is a crackpot fascist, and you’ll notice this has never harmed her career. Unlike the baleful menace that is, say, Gary Lineker.

You’ll recall Dominic Cummings told that committee that Tory PRs could tell the BBC and ITV basically anything, no matter how plainly absurd it was, and their senior correspondents would read it out live on air as urgent breaking news
Sophy Ridge: "Lord knows where that briefing came from. I think it shows the general chaos.."

I think it shows the culpability of our mass media, which laps up these briefings & reports them & at no stage wonders, even now(!), if they're being used.
