A La Niña Advisory has been issued, meaning that La Niña conditions have been observed in the tropical Pacific Ocean.
(1/3)
A graphic announcing the issuance of a La Niña Advisory on October 9, 2025. The text reads: "La Niña conditions have been observed in the tropical Pacific Ocean and are expected to continue through the December 2025 to February 2026 timeframe." A graphic showing a map of the Pacific Ocean with sea surface temperatures. A rectangular box labeled "key monitoring region" highlights a band of cooler-than-average water along the equator, indicating La Niña conditions.

Storm chasers frequent convenience stores. The most annoying customers, IMHO, are those slowly selecting scratch-off lottery tickets.

Heavy rain is coming to the Southwest over the next 7 days thanks to Priscilla late week & the trailing East Pacific disturbance this weekend. Flooding is going to be a problem the second half of the week in heavily impacted areas, along complex terrain, & over burn scars.

[Thread] Following along with the NE US weekend forecast & wondering why models are all over the place with the nor'easter?

Here's a good place to start: notice how a potent cutoff low in the 12z ECMWF is completely missing in the following 18z ECMWF run - only 96 hours out!

7am: A line of showers is generally weakening as it moves eastward across central Illinois. This is along a cold front that will provide a return to seasonable temperatures.

Here's the radar at right about the time of the the EF5 damage near Enderlin, ND, from KMVX (Fargo). Intense azimuthal shear.

Given there was a massive, high-intensity QLCS bearing down on the area, I have to wonder if the QLCS had an influence on the supercell/tornado intensity at Enderlin. #NDwx

It should be noted that there certainly have been tornadoes in the past ~12 years (since the previous "most recent" EF5) that had 3 s, 10 m winds well in excess of 200 mph. However, there just haven't been damage indicators to capture those (largely because few DIs can 'hold out' to >200 mph).
