Ok I gloomed too early… maintenance grants are a significant win

Depressed by the total lack of interest in young people’s lives and prospects for the future during the party conflict season… am I right to be gloomy? Did I miss something?

Aargh I meant to write Party Conference Season - maybe party conflicts season’ is more appropriate… there should be a word for Freudian autocorrect

This is *really* important.

Our elections regulator isn’t independent. Reform’s Arron Banks has said the Electoral Commission should be abolished

The architecture of British democracy is really weak and easily ripped out. It needs to be protected now

💥 The independence of @electoralcommission.org.uk must be fully restored to safeguard the UK’s electoral integrity from a future authoritarian government, our new report warns. Covered exclusively by Rowena Mason in today’s @theguardian.com 👇

Imagine being told you don’t belong in the country you’ve built your life in -- one party's recently-floated policy.

We desperately need stronger international ties.

Exchanges like Erasmus and Turing show how powerful cultural connection can be.
The time is ripe for an extensive youth mobility scheme
'Global Britain' needs citizens who have experienced the benefits, both at home and abroad, of living alongside other peoples and cultures

YouGov's MRP projects that cabinet ministers including Yvette Cooper and Ed Miliband would lose their seats to Reform UK were an election held tomorrow, with close races for Rachel Reeves and Wes Streeting

Kemi Badenoch and Robert Jenrick are also in extremely close fights to keep their seats

This week, we got an idea of how Reform would govern if they got in power. Not by following through on their promises, but by going along with whatever nonsense comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth:

Reform ridiculed for turning into a Trump tribute act
The only kind of people likely to eat poached swan are Reform politicians - and if they keep this Trump tribute act up, they're toast

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again.

Ignore the haters, London is the 🐐
Graphic with the headline “London is the greatest city in the world” set against a bright view of the River Thames with the Shard, Tower Bridge and the city skyline.

The text celebrates what makes London special: regularly voted the number one city in the world, incredible diversity with over 300 languages spoken, world-class transport, world leader in finance tech and life sciences, best museums and galleries many free to visit, world-leading nightlife, food sport and music for every taste, host to the world’s best sporting events, home to seven Premier League clubs, globally-ranked universities, a city where you can be yourself and love who you love, and a place for everyone.

The most important question is how we move on from this. And the most important paradox in British politics is why older people supporting Brexit (which opinion polls now tell us is regreted by a large majority) should have so much influence. This will only change with more young voters.

The Brexit ref of 2016 accelerated a trend in which age & education, rather than class, are best predictors of voting behaviour. Study, shows how this is splitting left-leaning young graduates from right-leaning pensioners

Elon Musk openly called for violence on our streets yesterday.

I hope politicians from all parties come together to condemn his deeply dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric.

Britain must stand united against this clear attempt to undermine our democracy.

So the question is does a Sortition include 16 and 17 year olds. And if not then what is the reason for that exclusion?
