Every day is your chance to make this city a little better.
Zhengzhou–Jiaozuo Intercity Railway

Using HSR for regional rail is an absolute luxury, but I do enjoy a 34-minute travel time between a city pair separated by roughly the same distance as Boston and Providence.

Building an elevated metro line really shouldn't cost too much.

Imagine the nice things we could have if we are bold.
Prins Hendrikkade, Amsterdam in 1987 and today. Since all motor traffic has since been removed outside the railway station there is now no longer any need for so many traffic lanes. Now reduced to one single lane, in one direction, with space for a wide cycle track and footways on both sides

When Governor Maura Healey announced that Phil Eng would become the state’s interim transportation secretary while continuing to lead the MBTA, many commuters were worried that his dual role might diminish his focus on improving the transit system.
Boston commuters wary of MBTA head being named transportation secretary: ‘It seems like two jobs is too many.’ - The Boston Globe
“If he can do both jobs, and if it really is temporary, maybe it’s fine," said Ron Roubenoff, 66, of Brookline. "But at some point, it has to be a choice between the two.”

This is harmful not just because it's victim blaming, but that it creates a false equivalence in terms of the responsibility of drivers and pedestrians: "bright clothes, headlights on."

Drivers have *much more* responsibility to keep road users safe! And that includes not speeding.
Hey Marylanders! Darker evenings don’t mean more danger on our roads. Just a little extra caution — bright clothes, headlights on — can make a huge difference.

Let’s keep each other safe. Be the difference!

The fact that SF cameras have already caught thousands of people going more than 15 miles over the speed limit is a perfect illustration of why these cameras were needed in the first place. www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/s...
S.F. speed cameras are generating mountains of tickets and fines. Here are the totals so far
August was the first month that San Francisco’s automated speed cameras generated citations with a fine. One camera accounted for a quarter of all the tickets, according to data.
