There are nights when I'm coaching when no matter what I ask for, every player holds onto the ball for 1 touch too many

That felt like tonight for #readingfc
RATINGS: Yeah... the less said about that the better.

Not much praise to go around from @webberross.bsky.social after a desperately poor #ReadingFC showing at home to Peterborough United.

On Oct 13, I put out a video about how Hunt couldn't consistently get his #readingfc side to create chances in the box

First 3 League games under Leam, 22 shots in the box, increasing every game.

xG 1.8 vs <1.2 in the rest of the season so far.

Some tweaks to Reading's press today, with it being mostly pretty man for man, meaning Doyle was often a little deeper than he has been.

One small issue that Reading can have is the space in between the winger and the full back being a pocket for a ball carrier to turn upfield

He learned everything he knows from Marc McNulty
Great memories of Michael Olise playing for Reading FC. Shame hé had to drop down to Bayern Munich. Pity thé poor footballer. @webberross.bsky.social

#readingfc PPDA, above 10 and increasing throughout the Hunt era, has been down at 8 or below for both of Leam's first two games - a blistering 7.78 today.

Can see why he wants his players fit because this is some serious intensity, even in the late second half.

RATINGS: Charlie Savage stole the show with an outstanding equaliser today, in an overall mixed #ReadingFC display, but @webberross.bsky.social was also pleased with the performances of Paudie O'Connor and Lewis Wing.
Reading 1-1 Rotherham United: Player Ratings
Ross runs the rule over a very mixed Royals performance, which earned a first league draw of the Leam Richardson era.

A lot of green shoots there. Against a Rotherham team that had conceded 3 goals in their last 6 League One games, Reading produced a good number of shots in the box.

Classic that #readingfc equalized through a long range rocket of course, but this is more repeatable for my money.

I'm not against AI in data use in football, but I don't really want the same guys who run the CCTV running the recruitment room...

I'd be much more impressed if the club put together a team of experienced football recruiting execs with a track record of using established leading data systems

Some early tweaks for Leam's #readingfc

Jacob very high here in buildup. Puts Lane into the half space and draws attention

3-2 buildup where one of the 6s or GK will help to create an angle

This goes thru Stevens to the underloaded weak side where Doyle finds a soft spot to turn upfield

Which First XI do you think is better?

Lined up what I think was #readingfc at "full strength" in the second half of last season vs what I think was probably our strongest lineup of this season

I'd say 24/25 is clearly stronger on defence but the attack is better this year in my opinion

If I were a sports referee I would simply bet on the games I was reffing, and use my authority to influence the games so I always won.

Then I would use the money to fund a revolution socialist party set on destroying bourgeois democracy and replacing the with proletarian democratic centralism.

I do recommend reading James' article on TTE today!

I obviously have some pretty strong feelings about the football #readingfc are playing that put me in the opposite camp but this piece is well reasoned.

Even when I don't fully agree, I think James raises some valid points

A few too many unforced "errors" today to use some Baseball parlance

A better overall performance from #readingfc though today including from Noel
