OK, a People's Bailout, a short thread.

The oligarchs have a plan for how to exit the current economic collapse: with bailouts for the biggest banks, financial firms, and corporations.

We need to develop plans for a People's Bailout. 1/x
So, at the bottom of the collapse, you guys know that this ends with the federal government spending trillions in public money to bail out the largest banks and companies, right?

There ARE other options but that will require mass mobilization on a very large scale.

If you’re an alumnus, faculty, or admin at a university, we can fight back. Call your school, get the alumni network going, and amp up the pressure ASAP!
This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.

We can flood Congressional switchboards with calls against this. Don't let Schumer's "senate switcheroo" sideline you. Call, call, call!

Also, talk to someone you know about this and the impacts. Most people *do not know* what is happening. Your voice is needed in DC and locally.

We can support trans people:

☑️ Fill out this public comment form
☑️ Say a few words about protecting trans healthcare
☑️ Give the admin, Congress, & courts a counter-weight to the argument that "nobody cares"

It may not be sufficient, but not taking action will definitely fail.
hi, cis folks!

if we *are* going to talk ACA, RFK's HHS proposed a rule to remove *all trans care* from ACA essential health benefit status.

~25mil people are insured by ACA & if 1% are trans, that's 250,000 people who'd lose access to care.

that's bad! take 2 minutes to stand with trans people.🧵

It's Trans Day of Visibility.

I wrote this a few years ago. It feels like it's gotten more true every year since.

This Trans Day of Visibility, what I want most of all is for trans people to be allowed to be self-centred in the best possible meaning of that term:

- To centre our survival
- To centre our material needs
- To centre our emotional needs
- To centre our souls, our dreams, our reasons for living

We can… care for each other while working to change the world.

☑️ Learn about mutual aid (read this book!)
☑️ Connect with people in your community
☑️ Organize networks of support
☑️ Build a more compassionate, connected future
Mutual Aid by Dean Spade: 9781839762123 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books
Mutual aid is the radical act of caring for each other while working to change the world.   Around the globe, people are faced with a spiralling succession of crises, from the Covid-19 pandemic and...

We can… network w/ alumni from our schools to pool resources:

☑️ pressure admin as a group
☑️ support intn’l students
☑️ support undocumented/under-resourced students & applicants

Schools care what alumni and parents think, and do.

We can... let whatever schools we attended know that we are paying attention & care about how they respond.
— Write a letter to the Provost/President/Board
— Write a letter to the editor of both the school's alumni and student newspapers
— Withhold donations (if you're making them)

We can... be willing to stand up, ask questions, get our phones out to record, and yes — get handcuffed — to protest illegal and unconstitutional actions *and* protect the vulnerable.
Also, a woman was handcuffed at a subway station in NYC (Franklin Ave) when she intervened asking why a delivery man was asked to show work permit by undercover agents. There is a video of that.

We can... rebuild independent media.
— Support adversarial outlets like @propublica.org @wired.com & others
— Support independent journalists
— Read beyond the headlines, into the substance of articles and beyond
— Practice curiosity & self-reflection to recognize bias in ourselves and others
"What is needed, right now, today, is not particularly intellectual. Indeed, it is...more an exercise of social power than of academic virtue...an adversarial media bloc that is large and loud enough to credibly challenge the administration’s ability to act."

I’m gonna make it simple since it seems a lot of the liberals on this site right now are having trouble with this. It was illegal to protect Anne Frank and it was legally required to turn her in to the Nazis.
If your reliance on the law dictates your morals you have already lost to the fascists.

Injustice anywhere is (clearly) a threat to justice everywhere.
As a former securities fraud lawyer, I can tell you this is 💯 true. Elon could have been stopped years ago if only we treated white collar crime like other crimes.
Elon Musk has been a walking SEC violation for a decade and no one cared. The entire Trump era could have been avoided if the US took white collar crime anywhere near as seriously as it does low level drug crime.
