I do have to point out that even with a more-accepting society, there is a gulf between "I am okay with queers" and "I am okay with my kid being a queer". People can support LGBT rights in the abstract and then get spooked when their own precious cinnamon roll makes them a "non-traditional family".

Push back on the propaganda and expose how the epistemic violence against trans people specifically and queer people write large has been allowed to stand unchallenged by people who used to claim to fight for us, but getting people to be okay with their own family being queer is also crucial.

At many times throughout this history liberal patriots in the United States have said "this isn't who we are, true patriots deny the evidence of their eyes and have a greater vision for what America is supposed to be" while the national project has been bloodshed and genocide.

We know that people are being horrendously abused in these facilities. It will take a long time for us to figure out exactly what that abuse looks like. But we can’t say that we didn’t know.
