“Either way, there was never a fourth Smokey movie, which was the right call.”

This is BANDIT: BANDIT BANDIT erasure and it will not stand.

(Not to mention BANDIT: BANDIT GOES COUNTRY, BANDIT: BEAUTY AND THE BANDIT, and BANDIT: BANDIT’S SILVER ANGEL - all directed by Hal Needham!)

And let me just say, as someone who thought Tron: Ares was bland and terrible, I wish I saw the same movie you saw! It sounds like a banger. You came out the winner in this situation.

I admire any critic who’s willing to take a big stand for a movie nobody else likes, and vice-versa. It’s one of the most important parts of our job: to show people that there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to feel about art, so long as that feeling is genuine.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

James Stewart probably watched The X-Files and heard at least a couple Spice Girls songs.

The Supreme Court legalizing the torture of teenagers just because some Christians want it. Why do I keep writing queer books? This is why. To keep kids like I was alive.

Nine Inch Nails' score for TRON: ARES is a sonic wonder, and lives up to the cinematic legacy of Wendy Carlos and Daft Punk.

Unfortunately, the rest of the movie totally stinks.

My review is at TheWrap.
‘Tron: Ares’ Review: Skip This Hack Sequel, Just Download the Soundtrack
Greta Lee and Jared Leto headline Disney’s pathetic, generic, idea-free brand exploitation "Tron: Ares" — but Nine Inch Nails is blameless.

To add to this one more point: #genAI will surely blur the accessibility to our cultural memories, as it actively manipulates the streams and sources of memories accessible. In a nutshell, #historiography will have to deal with lots of more plurals of everything.

I just read a clearly AI-fueled or AI-written book in my academic niche, and while I stumble to finish it, I predict that future historiography will have literature categories and markers like *published post 2024* or *published ante 2024*. Our days will be seen as the barrier between these worlds.

This is so fucking funny in a deeply ironic way

None of them fucking understand the situation

They really need an HR team to sit them all down and explain to them how important it is to put a strong barrier between work and personal stuff

Also fuck this transphobe

I do find it hilarious how they immediately backtracked after this and deleted the comment
a member of bluesky saying "Yeh" in response to the above post, with a journalist responding asking to get their exact quote over the thread in which the bluesky member responds with "what" and the journalist then rephrasing the question only for the bluesky member to delete the entire thread

It’s part and parcel with the mentality that critics somehow have too much power and should be torn down at every opportunity. Some people think we’re not even supposed to state our opinions without minimizing them.

Also, I’ve noticed nobody ever complains when we say something is good. Weird, huh.
williambibbiani.bsky.social
At the crux of this is an old complaint I’ve seen time and time again about criticism: “That’s just your opinion!”

Yes. Yes it is. And because opinions about art are inherently subjective, there is literally no reason to add “in my opinion.”

An opinion, confidently stated, is still an opinion!

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

If young people tell you something you didn’t think was offensive is actually offensive, you’re wrong and they’re right.

That movie/show/etc. you thought was brilliant, but you haven’t revisited it in 10-20+ years? Put an asterisk on that praise whenever you recommend it. It might not hold up.

Look. Invading our own country is about as straightforward a case as you can have for impeachment. The GOP abandoning the Constitution is kind of the only story there is and it gets no coverage.

Listen. If you didn't want to be seen as the Twitter escape pod, you shouldn't have deliberately fostered a community of people so united by their contempt for arbitrary authority and love of absolute free speech that they were willing to abandon a platform they'd been using for 15 years
