"Still, legal analysts have raised questions about the legality of sending US citizens to prisons abroad."

what are we doing here. it is illegal. there is literally zero question that it is illegal. what is this 'raised questions' stuff.

The executive targets his opponents w/bogus investigations. His government disappears people w/out due process and vanishes them beyond reach. He usurps legislative power, controls public funds at will, & consolidates power. Loyalty is expected — or else.

Authoritarianism isn’t coming. It’s here.

Louder, for all the would-be capitulating university presidents at other institutions in the back

Exclusive: Weeks after President Donald Trump’s administration ordered NIH to pull $250 million in biomedical research grants to Columbia University, the agency is freezing all remaining grant money owed to the university until further notice. scim.ag/4if5Rg1

These lies are reprehensible. That includes what they're saying about Mr. Abrego, a man who has never even been charged with a crime and whose sole criminal arrest was for loitering outside a Home Depot seeking work; they've called him a "violent criminal" and accused him of human trafficking.

I just want to reiterate that the White House Press Secretary — predictably but notably — lied through her teeth about this when asked.

Like this paper? Here's another that will be right up your alley.

Here, the authors merge voter files & online resumes to create a dataset of 34.5M people.

They show that Dems & Reps choose distinctive career paths and employers. This leads to a lot of partisan segregation at the workplace.

Wow who could’ve guessed that this would happen

It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world

It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction
Haley Britzky @halbritz

AFRICOM commander Gen. Langley tells senators that China is "trying to replicate" USAID programs in Africa as the US scales back USAID.

"They're trying to use that as an extension of the Belt and Road Initiative to gain favor by the African countries," Langley said.

Voters don't like when politicians use partisan attacks. But... they think the other side does.

"*I* may not thrive on partisan hostility, but others surely do."

This continues the cycle, leading to a breakdown in political trust and civility.

my most conservative-coded trait these days is that i honestly think that the worst possible thing that can happen for young men is for the entire society to coddle them. what they need to hear is that they have one life to live and they have to take responsibility for it.

Young men don't open bank accounts. They are too expensive. They download coin base or Robinhood app and buy crypto. That's their savings

If one party pushes that number higher. They vote for em. Gensler/Biden caused those savings to go down. The demo with the biggest change was young men

Wondering why Democrats keep selling out your values—and our democracy—in the name of ‘moderation’? Is it because the party leadership is too old, or too conservative?

Turns out, it’s the same problem.
Title: The Growing Generational Divide Transforming the Democratic Party in Congress
Subtitle: Data Shows Democratic Legislators Becoming More Progressive With Each Generation

A scatterplot showing the ideological scores of Democratic legislators across different generations, using data from the DIME dataset. The x-axis represents ideological scores, where lower values indicate more liberal positions and higher values indicate more conservative ones. The y-axis categorizes legislators by generation: Silent, Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z. Each point represents an individual legislator, while vertical black bars indicate the median ideological position for each generation.

Notable legislators are labeled, including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cori Bush, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Maxwell Frost, Jim Clyburn, David Scott, Joe Manchin, Henry Cuellar, Jared Moskowitz, and Jake Auchincloss. The plot illustrates a trend where younger Democratic legislators, particularly Millennials and Gen Z, are more progressive compared to older generations.

At the bottom, a note states that the data comes from the DIME dataset, with ideological scores derived from campaign contributions. It clarifies that individual points represent legislators and the vertical bars show group medians.

The ability to control mass party opinion this directly is unlike anything I’ve really seen in my time covering politics.
