Last year, @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social and @votejivan.bsky.social passed home rule petitions in Somerville & Cambridge and, collaborating with other municipal & statewide electeds, pushed our legislature and governor to ban forced brokers’ fees-Now tthey’re working to lift the ban on rent control.

We actually could not do that, legally, with an ordinance. What we can do, and what I have advocated for during multiple budgets, is hire an Invasive Species Manager to organize invasive plant removal on private property with the support of homeowners. Unfortunately, mayor hasn't taken me up on it.

This is the same playbook Trump has used to criminalize immigrants and activists who center the dignity & humanity of all people.

Xóchitl must be released immediately and reunited with her family.

Excited to canvass for @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social after the @bostondsa.org General Meeting tomorrow!

I’ve organized with Willie since his 1st campaign.

From ending forced brokers’ fees to curtailing surveillance tech, he’s been a partner.

And he’ll be a great Somerville Mayor.

Prelim is 9/16!

I'm proud to have earned the endorsement of @somervilleyimby.org as the housing candidate for Mayor. As Mayor, I will continue to fight for renters, to build more housing, and to ensure affordable and accessible units are available to keep our neighbors in this place we call home!

Huge congratulations to @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social for winning the mayoral endorsement from @somervilleyimby.org !! It means a lot that housing justice groups recognize that he's the best candidate. Now let's get him in office!

Tom, the Safety Sticks are already being used for ticketing illegal parking in bus lanes. Our fines haven't changed. The money pays for the Safety Sticks, then the rest goes to the general fund, which is us keeping it. This article is about state fines rendered through cameras on buses.

I'm sorry that happened to you, Siobhan. It sounds as terrifying as it is infuriating. Do you happen to remember what street you were on or what neighborhood when this happened?

We certainly should be doing more to increase street safety, including through structural changes.

So grateful to join the Pragmatic Optimists crew to talk about how local & state governments can do more to protect the trans community. Not only have I led this charge on the Somerville City Council by passing laws & changing policies; as mayor, I will continue to invest in our inclusive values.

Folks on here who are in #somervillema ... do you know about Justin Klekota doubling down on transphobia and stuff?

He's been texting some list of Somerville voters he's got, and his replies are super offputting. I haven't gotten a reply from him myself, but I've seen several screenshots like […]

This is your semi-annual reminder to not vote for Justin Klekota, who continues to attack trans Somervilliens as "extremists" for telling him that it was bad to require everyone to identify as either male, female, or "transitioning" to run for a position on the Ward 7 Democratic committee.

not too many people from somerville follow me here but i’m in the middle of an unhinged text exchange with city council candidate justin klekota. don’t vote for this guy!!!

him: Hello Bradley. Justin Klekota here, your Democratic State Committeeman.
Thank you for your past support! I'm running for Somerville City Council At-Large to increase funding for our schools & new housing, to reduce our carbon footprint, and to hire more emergency responders so we use less police overtime. My 25 years of experience have prepared me to serve (electjustin.org). Can I count on one of your four at-large votes? Stop2end

me:
cynical trans hating losers will never get my vote i hope you lose by so so so much

him: Hello Bradley. I'm a member of the LGBTQIA community and have consistently defended our community against hate groups like DSA.
The trans community has no ally stronger than me. me: so you've retracted your defense of the transphobic bylaw language and apologized to the trans community and their allies who faced your attacks when they criticized you?

him: I use the same language that our legal community uses. Sex discrimination laws are the legal basis for non-discrimination protections for sexual orientation and gender identity. I will vigorously defend the language that protects our community.
DSA spread a lot of misinformation sadly.
you can't call it misinformation when you didn't even dispute what i said

me: Imao. you just don't think the transphobic language is a problem because you're a transphobic loser. i will be advocating against you in every campaign you run until you retire. you're an embarrassment to our city. i truly hope you fix your hateful heart. him: You are attacking a member of the
LGBTQIA community and the legal language that protects us. Please educate yourself: https:// en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Bostock_v._Clayton_County

me: do you have the ability to read to the part of your little Wikipedia page that clearly states this existing legal framework leaves trans people extremely vulnerable because it fails to define its terms? if you willingly outsource your moral and linguistic framework to this debauched supreme court and needlessly deploy their discriminatory language and expect prospective constituents to take that seriously as reasoning, you're an even worse candidate for the council than i thought.

him: This language is all we have. We can't afford to lose it. Yes. SCOTUS is making terrible rulings and specifically targeting gender affirming care which is dangerous.
If Bostock is overturned it will set our legal protections back decades. me: so it's your serious contention that if you had used trans inclusive language instead of transphobic language in the bylaw, that would have somehow endangered the existing legal precedent? and that obviously infinitesimally, incalculably small theoretical "risk" (which did not at all exist) was more important than actually listening to the trans members of our community?

him: DSA was orchestrating a homophobic attack against my household around the clock over Twitter: litigating anything over Twitter is pointless. DSA does not speak for the LGBTQIA community: they are a hate group not worth any engagement.
Arguing with DSA is like arguing with Neo-Nazis or the KKK. They are filled with hate and incapable of any good faith communication.

me: we're not on twitter. it's just you and me. you didn't answer either of my questions.

The council folds to a scolding from the Mayor and undoes their vote from two nights ago by a nine to two vote.

It will surprise nobody that @jtforward2.bsky.social and @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social were the "cut the funds" votes.

Even after all that talk, the rest were like "sure."
