Question of the Day: What books can you think of in which snow was a significant part of the story? #booksky

Yes! Andrew Joseph White's "Compound Fracture" is narrated by an autistic protagonist. Several sections had me on the verge of tears because this is the first book I've read with explicit (and well executed!) autistic rep, not just coding, and it felt so validating.

I finished my first read of the month today, but it's one I have... Opinions about, and I don't want to tear down someone else's fave, so I'm just gonna sleep it off and probably pick up my next Dresden File tomorrow.

No goals. Goals and I aren't good bedfellows.

It's been a good reading month: a few books I was excited for ended up not being for me, but plenty of hits too. Some standouts I'd reread:

–Alice Walker's "The Color Purple"
–Julie Leong's "The Teller of Small Fortunes"
–Jean Rhys's "Wide Sargasso Sea"
–Nicola Dinan's "Bellies"

What society thinks disabled people want to hear:
“You’re so brave!”
“We look past your disability!”

What disabled people actually want to hear:
“We acknowledge your disability and will happily accommodate your needs.”
“You can marry without losing your benefits.”
“We’d like to offer you the job.”

Do you like #trains / #railroads ? Here's a fun craft I came up with for my TrainBoy. You print the crossing guards onto cardstock or heavy photo paper, cut them out, then tape them back to back around the candy cane drop bars!
