The important part is that you DON'T HAVE TO KNOW THE ANSWERS because there's literally no way to have all the factors, they change constantly even with the same people!! But knowing the factors are there at all helps make sense of the seemingly random results you can get + reduce hypervigilance

Specifically with socializing and neurodivergence it can be SO HARD to recognize when you've accidentally beefed something vs they're having a bad day vs basic unproblematic "they're not my type of person". Recognizing that Your Behavior is NOT THE SOLE FACTOR is *really* helpful for anxiety lmfao

In this extended metaphor there's a comparison to be made about only forming hypotheses around Known Data without any adjustment to procedure or factors bc you want the comfort of a predictable result, which is FUN, but something something no discovery without experimentation

And like, maybe its just the brainweird, but i find it comforting to think about all kinds of things from the angle of "its not a failure, we're just testing hypotheses. If something isn't working, it means there are factors I'm not aware of". Improving and Growing means Observing and Learning

Random thought on Failure: idk how emphasized it is in young schools but i DEFINITELY latched on to the idea of The Scientific Process real early, which is just the loop of Observe > Form Hypothesis > Test Hypothesis > Analyze Resulting Data > Adjust Factors > Test Again > Repeat > Define Results

I've been working on an essay about The Struggles of TTRPG Outreach and Fandom but I think this tumblr post just captured the whole sentiment im like 100 words.

Fact: Apart from pure recognition factor, one of the major reasons your fanart gets more eyes on it than your OCd is because people are perverts for narrative context, and your OCs don't have any.

Corollary: you don't actually need to write a whole-ass graphic novel to achieve that narrative context. You do need to know what your OC's story is, but once you do, you can literally just draw contextless snapshots from that story that raise more questions than they answer and people will fill in the blanks.
