Explored the Overton Hill Barrow Cemetery in the dying light of icily cold Saturday. The complex of a dozen Bowl, Bell, Roman, Bronze Age & Saxon inhumation Barrows overlook The Sanctuary & Avebury. The Roman road to Aquae Sulis crosses this most ancient yard of graves. Many Hawthorn berry baubles 2

I doubt there is a better photograph than this one that demonstrates how massive (36 ft ditch, 30 ft bank) and steep the original earthwork at #Avebury was. The water table being much higher in Neolithic times, there could have been standing water in the chalk moat. #Neolithic #Wiltshire

I think The Express needs to find their Xmas spirit.

We're paying £476m for a regime that tear gasses babies & destroys shelters in freezing conditions.

We should divert that money to a functioning and fair migration system.

Tune in to @boldpolitics.bsky.social at 3pm tomorrow.

Happy Winter Solstice, where we celebrate the returning of the light, on the shortest day and longest night.
On the solstice, when the land feels closest to its oldest stories, we’re reminded how much of England’s past remains out of reach.

❄️ Happy Midwinter Solstice - The Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Christmas Cake) is now in the mixing stage - celebrating 'Little Christmas' on 6th January, a day when Irish men took on all the household duties & cake baking, giving the women a chance to put their feet up. #solstice

I've found this (below) both reassuring and highlighting of the need for constant vigilance. There is no perfect end state. See if you can see where the 'thousand year reich' occurs (also, that Roman Empire lasted quite a while).
