Playtesting is such an essential part of game design. I would never of guessed that the board phase of my little hex crawl space ship sim rpg would carry the better part of a whole 3 hour session.

You start designing a rpg system based on the doomed recon team sent into facility before the heroes arrive and then you accidently make a full wargame as set up.

The idea that we are somehow obligated to engage in the PVP-based social media mode out of some kind of moral principle is bullshit.

Truth. I barely made (French) minimum wage last year. And definitely will NOT this year.
Folks know I never stop not stopping, but I wouldn't be publishing games anymore if it weren't for my own personal Hela, <3

Delightfully evil things the players did in the playtest, take off the ships name plate to sell, turn off the power on every second light bulb, reduce the oxygen supply onboard by 10%, murder one of their crew members to avoid paying out the full salvage quota, all in the name of profit.

Findings from the playtest:
1.Players love playing corporate douchebags.
2.A clear indication of gameplay phase changes is more helpful than smooth cinematic scene change when setting gameplay expectations at least in the beginning.
3.The players need greater incentives to visit planets.

A serious geopolitical oversight.
Frankly I don’t think there’s enough global strategy currently in place for the possibility of ‘what if the Mongols rise again?’

I've been thinking a lot about the troupe play and how to explain it to new players. I wonder if the fighting fantasy rpg had it right and the language of cinema (scene, sqeuence, act) may be more helpful then game language (turn, round, phase) especially with multiple characters. Just a thought.

Reminded of the concept of "Speedbumps" in HIS MAJESTY THE WORM today.
I'm a forgetful person by nature, and when I'm GMing there's a lot of spinning plates.
I purposefully put speed bumps into the game so that I could remember to do the "bookkeeping" parts of the game that were important to me.
