I’m probably not smarter than you, but I’ve heard that kind of aid work is very difficult. Apparently, the people on the front lines had a lot of local knowledge, and they have been dispersed to the winds. It takes time to build that up again. I don’t know who is trying.

ICE are not anyone’s “fellow officers.” They don’t patrol our neighborhoods at night. They don’t investigate murders and robberies and burglaries. They are not crime fighters. And there’s a reason they don’t have a 911 line: They are not the people you call when you need help. They are not police.

I have my disagreements with some of Pritzker's policy choices, but I like his willingness to call out Trump's authoritarianism. We need more leadership like that.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?
Donald Trump Truth Social Post: Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also.

I hated college group assignments. Even without the shirking issue, coordinating was more work than solving the problem.

In high school I would have told Ethan on the first day not to worry because I’d take care of it. And he’d be grateful because he didn’t realize that meant I thought he couldn’t do it. In high school, Ethan was easy to spot.

It blows my mind that people on this thread are slamming Weiss for saying “human beings—not cultures—are created equal.” I realize they are placing it in a different context than I do, but it still sounds like a sensible declaration of the primacy of the individual to me.

There’s a lot in Bari Weiss’ 2023 FedSoc speech that merits scrutiny but I think the Times did a disservice by closing with this quote — given what she says immediately after. fedsoc.org/commentary/f...

Man, it must take some crazy stupid level of homophobia to make someone tear up pavement with heavy equipment just because it has rainbow colors.
The image shows a tweet from Secretary Sean Duffy, who posted a clapping hands emoji in response to another tweet. The quoted tweet from the account “End Wokeness” includes a short video still of construction machinery tearing up a crosswalk painted in rainbow colors. The caption of that tweet says, “LGBTQ crosswalk in Miami Beach torn up by Florida DOT.” The image shows the machine lifting and breaking apart rainbow-painted bricks while construction workers and orange safety barriers are visible in the background.

Unlike ICE, Chicago cops regularly arrest actual murderous gang members. Prosecutors prosecute them, and judges send them to jail. And they do it under their own names with their faces showing. ICE has no justification for hiding their identities while snapping up undocumented landscape workers.

Also, “rammed by 10 cars”? I think they mean they got into a multi-car accident. Or maybe even caused one.

I'm sorry, NO ONE runs this country down or shows so little gratitude for what they have been given than Donald John Trump.

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.
Tweet from the VP:
Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It's been
overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most.
Yet she oozes with contempt.
My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you'd be a much
happier person if you showed a little gratitude

"Who's paying for it?" The same American taxpayers who pay for it when you go to the emergency room on your taxpayer-funded healthcare plan, Karoline.

Leavitt: "When an illegal alien goes to the emergency room, who's paying for it? The American taxpayer."

JD, if you were a real free-market capitalist like Republicans used to be, you’d know that Joy Reid is wealthy because she provides a service that our fellow Americans believe improves their lives. Maybe that’s something for which *you* should show a little gratitude.

I like your work, but what the heck is Zeteo? Would you mind taking a few minutes to sell us on it? Who’s running it? What are they trying to do? Why is it so great?

And that’s just a list of well-known women libertarians off the top of my head.
windypundit.com
Reason has had 3 or 4 women Editor's in Chief, and is currently helmed by Katherine Mangu-Ward, who regularly publishes libertarian writing from women such as Senior Editor Elizabeth Nolan Brown, Associate Editor Liz Wolfe, and contributing economists Veronique de Rugy and Deirdre McCloskey.
windypundit.com
Heck, the 2020 libertarian Presidential candidate was a woman, Jo Jorgenson. And I basically learned libertarianism from Virginia Postrel's work as Editor in Chief of @reason.com magazine, arguably the flagship publication of the libertarian movement.
windypundit.com
While it's true that there are more male libertarians than women, this goes too far. Rose Wilder Lane and Isabel Paterson were the leading libertarian thinkers of their time. And many libertarians trace their origin to reading Ayn Rand, who pissed off way more people than most modern libertarians.
matthew.flux.community
As many know, there are basically no libertarian women.

This is largely a function of that women who are right wing tend to be religious. Only godly delusion can make someone voluntarily give up her rights.

But it's also that libertarian men are notoriously creepy.
windypundit.com
Yeah. I still call myself a libertarian, but my top priorities aren’t taxes, DEI, or ending the Fed. Not while we still have the war on drugs, criminalized sex work, and ICE.

It probably takes both kinds of responses. You need people who can deal with the opposition, and you need people to call them out for their evil, to remind everyone and keep up the pressure. I'm terrible at politics, so I'm on team call-them-evil, but some people are more effective in other ways.
windypundit.com
It depends on what's possible. Serial killers are evil and have few allies, so we pay police departments to defeat them by force. We cannot so simply defeat the immigrant haters, because they have numbers and power. We can try to peel away their supporters, but calling them evil won't help.

I'm pretty sure Tilly is 95% marketing hype. One of the big advantages of AI is that it's flexible, so why would you lock in a particular avatar? The most I can see as a breakthrough is that they've figured out how to keep the character consistent over repeated generative runs.

I’ve heard or seen the “kill people and break things” formulation a few times from military folks, although not recently. I got the impression it was meant as an acknowledgment of the reality of fighting a war.

The flew the entire military leadership in so they could see for themselves that the Secretary of Defense is a mouthbreathing dipshit and the Commander in Chief is a senile, weak old man who might keel over at any moment.
