Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.
Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

Fuck anyone who could have voted for Kamala Harris last fall who chose not to.
That didn’t take long.

Hold onto your hats, they’re making their power play.

I’ll say this as many times as I have to.

No tax cut in the history of tax cuts has ever paid for itself. Not a one.

The Trump administration released a report last week that it billed as a “clear, evidence-based foundation” for action on a range of children’s health issues. But the report, from the Make America Healthy Again Commission, cited studies that did not exist. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/29/w...

We are living in a country where the stupidest people make the most decisions.
Annual COVID-19 shots for healthy younger adults and children will no longer be routinely approved under a major new policy shift unveiled Tuesday by the Trump administration.

The FDA said Tuesday annual COVID shots will still be regularly approved for seniors and younger people with increased health risks from the virus.

I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.

The institutions of this economy depend on the institutions of this democracy.
A lot of very rich people are still wrongly assuming that they will be fully insulated from the deep social dysfunction, economic collapse, and rising authoritarianism being ushered in by Trump. They won’t—but it currently looks like they’re willing to find that out the hard way.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

I recommend setting aside some time to read this thoughtful essay. I found it to be very clarifying and grounded in actual detail rather than pundit-y projections.
On her first day canvassing for Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania, “I began to sense a dissonance between the celebrity-inflected exuberance of the Harris campaign and the bleak mood and raw divisions I encountered in the streets,” Julia Preston writes.
