… revolution meant that the concessions given to everyone else were going to be gradually rolled back. From the 1970s onwards this has been going on. It is like we have been returning to a Victorian Britain timeline of incredibly rich industrialists and massive poverty.

I think it is subtly different to that. Up until the late 1960s it was not universally acknowledged that the Soviet Union was a bust. When it came to ideologies capitalism had a competitor.
The idea that for the rich, their money and their lives were not going to be destroyed by a socialist …

Over and over, centrists make this same mistake. They think there's some reasonable middle ground and that the right, like them, will appreciate the effort made to find it. But that is a fundamental misunderstanding of right-wing politics. It is a belief system structured around power alone.

Other than the basics I think the most fun way to learn is going for a walk and learn how to navigate by looking for features in the landscape and relating them to what is shown on the map. A different skill to using a compass.

Up until a couple of years ago, the Australian bank I still have account with accepted forms sent by fax, which would save me having to post them. I still have the fax app on my mac. I should delete it now.
