The claim SDLT has no impact on first time buyers is a bit of a nonsense, it massively impacts second or third time buyers who are upsizing or relocating, often due to work or family. Literally the worst place in the system for friction to fall.

I think they do have some value. The wash out rate for people with an accountancy degree is anecdotally lower for instance.
